Hey guys,

I am considering the financial implications for the new project that I have been offered before I decide whether or not to take on. I will need grooming kit, buckets, synthetic saddle, bridle, rugs etc. Got to over £500 so far! What did you guys spend on 'start up' costs or what do you think is a realistic ballpark figure? I'm sure I keep omitting stuff from my list.

Thanks in advance!

Sarah

Hi

Starting up can cost a small fortune :S

Try looking on ebay at a cheaper shop, or I love equestrain clearances.

When I bought my first horse I really spoilt her and myself, as she was the first horse I bought. The rest were loan ponies and one was given to me by my mum

I think I spent £800 on tack, £80 on grooming kit, haynets + feed buckets and water bucket and prob 200 on rugs and boots. But like I say she was hugely spoilt!!

It can be done much cheaper.

P.S. Have fun, buying stuff for a new horse is sooo exciting!

as in kitting out a new ponio... rugs, boots, tack etc. My current ponios stuff will not fit a 16.2!

Horsey shopping is so much fun, if only ebay was around 10 years ago my pocket money would of gone so much futher. If its a project and you want to make money what about a bit of begging and borrowing from fellow tack obsessed friends?

You could look aroung local tack sales for some bargains. There are also sales on a lot of the time at Robinsons etc

TBH I bought stuff as I needed it so would not have a clue how much.

It also depends what comes with said ponio tack etc?

Haha its too much fun- I am meant to be doing my Masters Dissertation but horsey shopping is far too interesting. I'm not really intending to make money, just school him for low level drssage/SJ and hacking (he is an ex racer). So, I don't want to spend a huuuge amount. Tho I did see a fab newmarket Mark Todd bridle for £130... (steps away from the credit card). I have a bridle so hopefully can get a wintec saddle for the time being at £250 then buckets, haynets grooming kit and misc for £100 and rugs for say £150.... I feel like an excited child! Everyone keeps asking me what colour scheme I'm going to opt for - haha I think green on a chestnut?

Ebay certainly looks like a good bet and I quite like frogpool manor. Will deffo check out second hand bits on my local site the NFED too. Ooooh excitement!

Green sounds good.

Have a look on equestrianclearance.com they've got some really good bargains and I've always found them helpful and reliable.
