My Horse has always nipped kicked when doing up rugs around the belly its just her being mare-ish but i was doing up her turnout and she went full out to bite me not nip proberly bite me!! and just missed me but nearly ripped my coat
I Dont understand? i havent changed anything, thats the rugs shes always had it fits ect it not too tight, so i dont think its the rug, fair enough nipping ect is her being mare ish she gets told off ect
any ideas?
shes been staying in more cause the snow, maybe shes bored? thats the only reason i can think off and shes been clipped so more fresh
teeth, saddle, back, feet, rugs everything is fine..

edit: when she nipped she never actully would go to bite, she was jus trying to say 'back off' now shes will just go for you

That's almost certainly the reason! One of the young mares I have here for backing (lovingly nicknamed 'psycho b**ch from hell' by my staff) has become positively EVIL since the freeze - and she IS going in the field for 4 hours every day. But she's not charging around as much - as it's too icy - and althougfh we cut her feed back, she just has too much energy and so she's exercising her teeth in the stable!!

Hiya, yer shes probaly bit bored cos of doing less. SHes prob a bit fed up like well all are!!!:(
Also if shes doing less i know you have to be carefull of her weight but make sure shes not getting to much hard food. Cut down on the food with protein (your mixes that sort of thing) and up her fibre (chaffs/hifi/fibre nuts ect and hay/haylage although i know you were having to weigh that, (did you sor that by the way?)
And if i remeber rightly you have an indoor school (lucky you;)) Do lots of varied work. :)

Ah thanks alot :D
ohh her feed is mostly fiber and just a paster mix so no sugars so i dont have to worry so much :p
haa sounds like mine, no one will ride her at the yard, casue shes evil ;)
i know zoe its just great ;)

You said earlier she had 4 rugs on.
There is probably too much weight on her withers which is causing her pain so when you put rugs on she doesn't like it as she is hurting

Yes but if you've made her withers sore by heaping rugs on them any rug is going to hurt. Imagine if you've given yourself a blister wearing heavy boots, even if you put ballet shoes on the blister it hurts.
