Hello All,

I am trying to set up a Fitness plan and well a general plan for trying to improve behaviour and make life a little better for myself!

Now although I have 3 months to come up with a plan I want to do all the research I can and wondered I any of you had ideas and information you could share.

Is there a particular event you are getting fit for? and the discplines you take part in will make a big difference
ie. a horse doing prelim dressage, schooling and hacking would have a very different fitness plan to an eventer or showjumper :)

Also the age of the horse and whether the horse has been fit before will play a big part

She is an ex racer 7 yrs old. She was fit for team chasing and then due to an emergency operation I have undergone had to be turned away. she will be out for 3 months and I am hoping to event her, only with her being very green in all areas (non-racing) she has a few behaviour issues in that she can run back and bunny hop if she doesn't want to do something, this is getting better (or was before the op).

Being an ex-racer then she wouldnt take as much to get fit.

Found this that might help with the basics -

You would need to monitor the increase of feed ect as you build up and of course be aware that (in most cases, not all) when a horse gets fitter behaviour can get worse!

To contradict the above, if you are consistent about acceptable behaviour from the start you should be able to nip it in the bud as after 3 months off you can almost start again :)

Hope that helps!

Yeah that was the plan to start again! She has to prove that she can be really good else I face the fear of having to sell her :'(

and really dont want to do that!
