Hi, starting a worming programme on a horse (not mine) but owner does not know last time horse was wormed, but we know it was not in last 6-8 months. Very confused with the books I'm reading and would like to start a proper annual programme... Any suggestions or examples of your worming programme you can share please?
Based on what I have been reading we could try the suggestion before but it seems so complicated and like you have to worm so often. Growing up I was told to worm every 8-12 weeks and never had any teaching on all the different types of wormers so I am totally out of touch. A friend who is a vet recommends only worming once a year to stop resistence. My own horse had a worm count but I guess I need to dose him for tapeworm anyway.
Summer programme April to august (every 6 weeks)
Year 1 - benzimidazole wormer every 6 weeks
Year 2 - invermectin
Year 3 - pyrantel
Winter programme
Sept/oct - tapeworm (maybe pyratape p)
Oct - panacur guard
Dec -- invermectin
Feb - panacur guard
March - tapeworm wormer
Would dearly love some help! Running rings around myself reading about it all!
