I am wanting to start my pony out in driving as I'd like him to be a ride and drive pony if possible :)
I have only ever driven a pair of experienced horses that knew what they were doing so I seriously need some pointers of where I could take him training etc and also what sort of tack etc is needed!
Iv had him since he was two he's always been very chilled out towards working so I think he would be brilliant once he learns the ropes :D

If anyone has any useful info to share I would be hugely grateful!

The most important part is lots of longreining beforehand. LOTS and lOTS over varied terrain and situations.
He must learn his voice comands and be able to stand still and quietly in one spot when asked, even on a busy road junction with lorries wizzing past. This can be the most difficult part as many like to turn round to beg for a treat or prance about when asked to wait. I teach mine the commands stand, back up (for putting to), walkon, trot on and canter, left and right and whoa to slow the speed at any pace. Use another person to help as much as possible.

Progress to pulling a tyre or pallet many miles, your arena and field should get well harrowed if you make your own:)
Putting to the cart is easy if you've done the preparatory work.
I had one that seemed OK until he felt trapped by the shafts and panicked. Many weeks were spent walking with 2 drain pipes in the tugs being dragged about, soon got used to it.
Join a driving club, you will find someone will always have bits and pieces you can buy or borrow as needed and will assist with advice and sourcing tack.
ENJOY
