Only 3 more sleeps until my daughter's competition pony is collected to go to his new home.

We have had Toby for 2.5 years and he is just the best. Although only 14.1hh I would far rather hack him out than my horse - he is just so 'into' everything. So alert and interested in his surroundings. So silly and spooky at ridiculous things (frost on a clump of grass!). So affectionate. So funny. Such odd habits such as having a big stretch in between rug changing (he stretches so low his elbows almost touch the ground). When you take him to the field, he pretends to nip your shoulder and when you look round at him he looks the other way as if to say 'who me? I didn't do anything'.

We will miss him so much but know that his new home is just right for him, he can continue competing which is what he loves to do. He would be bored to tears if we kept him here as a happy hacker.

We are dreading Saturday.:(

awww :( poor you, i can imagine how much you're going to miss the little fella... but just think how happy he's gona be competing, having fun galloping round XC courses :D at least you know he's going to a good home (by the sounds of it) x

thanks.

the new owner is a prolific Youtuber and so I've been able to watch endless video clips of her competing on her current 2 ponies (one now sold). And in the videos I can see her arena, stables and fields. Very knowledgeable riding mum too and she asked loads of questions (the right ones!).

I am very satisfied that the match is good but it doesn't make my heartbreak any less.

Aww, bless you both. He's a lovely pony & it must be so difficult to say goodbye.

As you say though, he's far too talented to just hack & from the sounds of it, loves going out & competing. I hope they keep in touch & let you know how he & his new jockey are getting on.

oh dear .its sad isnt it .can you keep in touch as that may help a bit to know hes happy.we still keep in contact with flys old owner.its hard when you out grow them, hopefully your next one can be a forever horse. hugs for saturday.

Crikey, it's taken a long time for him to sell!

He is lovely, and I would have been interested myself had he not been way over my budget! :(

Can't complain though, I have found myself a lovely pony.

Bless you, I have never sold a horse so i cant say i know what your going through, but it is quite obvious to see in your opening post how much love you have shown that little pony in the two and a half years you have owned him! Nothing i can type is going to make saturday any easier but you should be proud of what you have achieved with him, think about all the memories he has given you with his cheeky little ways and think about how happy he is going to make his new owners and how happy he is going to be with them competing as he loves to do. Hope all goes well on saturday.

It has, although none of it was down to Toby! Unfortunate set of events really - 1st buyer pulled out the evening before the vetting. Didn't advertise for a few months, then sold again, but buyer pulled out because she was unable to sell her horse to finance Toby's purchase. Again, we left advertising for a month or two and had a series of children to try him who just weren't strong/big enough to ride him. It's a right old lottery really. Anyway, this purchaser is a great rider so I'm hopeful that the match will be a good one.
