My family are considering setting up a DIY/Assisted DIY yard from scratch. They are farmers so intending on diversifying, we're planning on building 10 stables and a all weather floodlit menage, I'd love to have some constructive comments on setting up a yard/prices/facilities and just some general advice. I'd also be grateful to hear if anyone has done this before with the help of a grant and if so roughly how much you got in comparison to how much you paid yourself.

Thank you!

If you have the space, if you can create separate storage areas per livery client (or shared between 2 or 3 of them) rather than one huge space where everything gets muddled/lost/always looks a mess. Ideally lockable. Big enough for clients saddles/bridles, essential crap and rug storage, also feed hay and bedding. This has a huge advantage that things tend not to go walkabout, which unfortunately can sometimes happen if you get my drift... I share something about 10 x 12 with one other, total of 4 horses between us, I'd say that was about the limit really. I had the luxury at one place of 12 x 12 space all to myself, that was sheer heaven!
