Statement from the BHS re Amersham Horses

[ QUOTE ]
I assume as you are so sure making such a statement you have actually seen the passports!

dont be ridiculous...of course i havent seen passports..im not making any statements..

just KNOW what happens at a market..the same markets/type of markets he is supposed to have bought these animals from...if an animal is brought through, and that market is a PIO then they'll receive one..either that the anmal already has one...
JG isn't some "messiah" figure who gets special treatment at a sale/market you know...

NO markets are PIO's (the auctioneers at what was Southall market are a PIO but that is the only one) The whole situation at markets is wrong - you can turn up at our local one Derby with an animal which you could have stolen from a field the day before, have a passport application filled in there and then and sell it through the ring, the buyer is given an application form and told to send it in with their details on therefore no trace back to the seller - absolutely ludicrous and totally ILLEGAL ! It is trading standards who are supposed to enforce and police this legislation but htye really dont have a clue

ok passport application forms......
Beeston also issues these...as do a couple more...

Actual passports are issued at York Sales, I know because Streusels passport was freshly 'created' on the day we bought him, they have an agent from one of the breed societies (can't remember which one). I would be very surprised if he doesnt have passports, or the applications (I didnt realise that went on but would explain the german papers that came with Streusel from when he was originally imported and had never been followed up). Perhaps as JM07 said, any born at his farm may not be but if the shambolic passport system cant control older animals then what chance for youngsters when he can turn up at any sale and passport them.

thank you hch4971..i knew this went on at several sales as i've bought a couple of coloured yearlings who had them knocked up on the day of purchase..

seems strange that people just wont/or cant believe that this type of thing happens..especially when it concerns the SF animals...

I was under the impression that Farmkey who had been issuing passports at this auction ceased doing last year if my memory serves me correctly?
Or is it just an application form that the buyers can obtain?

go to any horse fair and you'll see boxes of passports changing hands, openly changing hands, it's easy enough then to match up any horse with a passport tha tlooks about right. One of our little pony colts came in to the sanctuary with a passport that may have just about covered him markings wise with a bit of imagination... except for one thing..it was marked as a filly!! He came from a drift auction.
..and yes in cases of emergency and on welfare grounds equines can be transported without passports to hand under dispensation by Animal Health Officerfor the area(s) concerned.

i bought 2 coloureds...one had an actual passport made up, which took 15 minutes, the other was an application form..

Ah.......so the Animals are "Confiscated"...not "Rescued".

as Police are in attendence during such "confiscations", am i right to say then that they authorise such movements without passports???

makes a total mockery of the passport system doesnt it?

Just a thought, kind of linking into the passport conversations...

Wasn't there some talk when the horses were first rescued, that perhaps some of them had been stolen (not that JG had stolen them, but they had been stolen and put through the markets).

Has this even been looked into??

requiring every single horse/pony/donkey to have a correct passport with all markings/sex/age correct and the diagram filled in by a vet - passports to be produced by JG - would certainly delay the return of these poor horses (or sale) and enable at least some to be saved from being returned or sold - the ones without valid passports

the more delays the better as if he's found guildty of neglect on 28th April then it makes this ruling to return/sell the animals even more ludicrous.

Actually this is all a very good point.

Some 111 horses requireing passports (possibly) at around £20 a time - some two - three months for the passport agency to process.

My Gray's horses cannot be sold then presumably - and he has a bit of money to fork out first??????

Is anyone passing this to the BHS??

as said above, I would be very surprised if he does not have passports for most of the animals. Assuming he has bought them at auction then they would have come with a passport (or as above an application form). I am pretty sure that if this was a major issue the charities would have jumped on it but I would be delighted if it could be used against him.
