hi all,

firstly does anyone know if Stravinsky is still going to be standing in the UK next year or is he jetting off again?

secondly, opinions on whether he is a good choice to refine my 3/4tb x 1/4 id filly who looks more like a half bred.

she is nicely bred with 'popular' irish names on the dam side and a Group 2 winning racehorse as a sire, beautifully put together with lots of wins and placings this summer up to County level.
i bought her to event but she has turned out to be a proper middleweight/hunter type so lloking to add refinement. she moves extremely well (more like a warmblood) with really uphill paces and the type that looks 'born on the bit.' lovely temperament in all ways and really easy to do everything with. also has the added bonus of being coloured!

she has been broken now (is 3) and i am looking to breed next year with the plan to keep the foal for myself and by putting her in foal at 4, hopefully it won't disrupt her career too much.

if not stravinsky, any other ideas for a refining horse to add some blood but not detract from producing a good type with big movement?

How about a good Trakehner. I showed this filly yesterday at the Futurity to get an Elite score on the eventing section - she has movement and jump as well as being a lovely stamp.

A stallion that is stunningly attractive with an amazing canter is Herzensdieb. We have a mare in foal to him, and the stud were superb to deal with

Very elegant stallion, works well on an old fashioned stamp of mare.
 
REALLY lovely filly, volatis!

Axis looks a very interesting cross. He himself has been accepted to the Hannovarians, was the best jumper of his grading and has produced a son who won his year. His sire, Sixtus, has produced some very good eventers, including Rob Roy, that won the Bundeschampionat.
 
Tarrsteps, Axis is I think one of the most exciting Trakehner sires out there. As you say he has the Sixtus jumping talent and actually produced the top jumping colt at the grading two years running. His son Hirtentanz I love, what a pop he has on him!
Axis is produced for dressage and already winning at PSG and won at the Trakehner national riding championships in Germany recently. Plus his temperament is superb.
 
Stravinsky is a lovely sire, and I think he is well worth using. I have had two fillies by him this year, and have seen several others - all of which have been super foals. There were three of them at the Futurity at Arena UK - one the evaulators thought should be entered for training as a racehorse as she was so athletic, and the other two scored very highly. A lovely colt got 8.88 for both of his sections.

My fillies are fab. The black one (ex a Swedish mare) is very young but is bright and forward thinking, and has super long limbs and a great personality. She has a lot of presence and great paces - I am sure she will make someone a super Dressage horse (the dam is very "old style" warmblood).

The coloured filly has more blood - she is 80% TB - but still has the same forward attitude, nothing is too much of an ask for her. She's got a fabulous walk and a super canter, and as she is bred to event I am very pleased with her. Again, she will go on to do a job for someone.

Stravinsky is a lovely horse - very nice temperament and has a performance record to rival most stallions - all this after a successful career on the racetrack. I think if you are looking to add in blood and refinement, he has to be top of the list of contenders. All of those continental studbooks can't be wrong!!
 
thanks for the other ideas- i will look more into Axis (would have to see a video), but to be honest, i am really looking for a performance TB as i don't want to mix the bloodlines up too much and would rather not add another breed to TBxID.
also, we already have lots of 'up and down' movement and what i really need to add is a bit of reach to her stride and a proper gallop, which imo, a Tb is best for.

personal preference, but i really did not like the photos of Garuda K on that link- just not my sort of horse at all.

thanks Springs for the link to Springfield Symphony, but i feel as the mare is herself only a youngster, i would rahter use an older, proven, stallion. only once she has proved herself under saddle, would i use a young stallion i think.

will try and search out some pictures of Stravinsky youngsters- although breeders rave about him, there are rarely any for sale etc so i'm finding it hard to see photos of offspring.
