I'm happy at the livery yard that I'm at, nice although not posh facilities and it suits Daisy. Only downside is typical livery yard politics and the fact its a five min drive or fifteen min walk to get there.

We live in a barn conversion as part of a farm complex and there are stables, a manege and a paddock that are not being used. I'm very tempted to ask about renting it, especially as FB, my best friend, would like to come with me amd bring her mare.

What do you think? Awful idea? Worth asking?

I'm just too nervous to go and ask. The people that own it are quite posh, maybe they don't want to see cobs making their field look muddy?

Argh it's so difficult, they did used to have horses apparently, have no idea why they don't now but haven't had for quite a while.
 
I would so go and ask for sure sooner the better...worst they will say is no...but on other hand they may well say yes be delighted to have horses in their again.

Go and ask, but make sure that you both know the expectations on either side (and a contract obviously) if you move in. Think about the fact that you may end up with your horse on it's own sometimes, would farrier come out for 1 horse, less people to share ideas with etc. It is a great idea but there will be things to look at if the people say yes, to make sure it will work for you. Hope it works out great!
 
Ok, before I go over, what would you offer? Currently paying £85pcm for livery.

Would be renting three stables, 2 acres (not alot I know but they are both fatties on restricted grazing anyway and currently on about that on our yard) and a 20x30ish manege that is okay but has no lights and needs resurfacing.
 
i was paying £200pcm for 3 acres with yard area no stables or arena - but good hacking
sorry but i have gone back to a small livery yard due to work commitments and having your own yard does not have the back-up if i could not get to the stables, also its the other costs such as muckheap removal, hedge triming, field management etc etc
 
Certainly weren't horrified that I asked, or that a hairy cob would be able to look through their windows. Are going to think about it and let me know.
