I had my first ever lesson last week on my new pony and it turns out 4 years of student drinking and eating lots of food has taken it's toll.

My instructor has told me that I need to improve my core strength as at the moment I am leaning forward and un balancing my already unbalanced youngster...

Anyone got any tips or excersises that are good for to strengthen those muscles needed when riding?

P.s sooo happy with new horse, dressage instructor rode her and she looked amazing.. just my riding that needs sorting now.

I'll join your club, the say Yoga and Parlartiees for core strenght.

I've just finished uni and had a jumping lesson, my god it hurt. Pony is a wiz kid and keeping my knee down calfs on whilst riding with my hands on my knees as ponieo imitates wall of death was not fun. My ridding instructer just laughed and said its your turn again.

Cycling helps your balance and your muscle tone! I pulled my old bike out the garage a few weeks ago and have been cycling everywhere instead of driving since then- I'm delighted to report it really helps

Jogging, its shifts weight, tones your buttocks and arms and is great for your breathing and heart etc (so no more huffing and puffing and sounding like Fag Ash Lil on 40 day) lol.

Get your dog on a leash (or borrow someone else's) and it will cost you nothing!

Jogging also knackers knees, backs , ankles. I could go on. Swimming, cycling and pilates less concussion on the old joints!!!

Yeah I would also say avoid jogging - my friend is a jogger and at 18 she already has shin splints from the concussion. If you want to do something similar to running then try cross training.
