Sorry for the threads all over the place...

Our darling girl is right beside us on the rug ;D

I am so happy to have her home. While the car journey was a bit bumpy, we have since administered painkillers and she is totally comfortable.

As for the eye--OH MY GOODNESS! It looks like a real eye; it blinks, it's the same colour, and is almost identical to the other one. Once the swelling goes down, I think she's going to be back to her magnificent self.

More importantly, she has eaten three spoonfuls of food, taken her painkiller like a good girl, and did a wee head tilt when my husband spoke of "treat treats" in the car.

While we do have to keep an eye out for an elevated heart rate and possible lung aspiration--due to her vomiting before and after surgery, but not since, and everything is clear at this stage--I am optimistic for a swift recovery. Between the tag team of sitter/us, she is going to have her every whim catered to 24/7, for at least the next ten days.

I feel pretty good about things now, and Sooty, I'm going to PM you about your old terrier

I'm just heading off to bed now, but I'm glad I saw this on the Index page before I toddled up the stairs.

So so pleased for you and Stella. Big but gentle hugs to her. x

That IS good news Prose. I hope she makes a quick recovery and gets back to her normal self again as soon as can be.

Brilliant news!!

Dear Stella, she's very precious to a lot of people you know.

I hope she has a speedy recovery and enjoys the extra TLC.

xx

That is really good news, I didn't post on your other threads, but had been following, and I always look at your lovely pictures!

Wishing a very speedy recovery to Stella!

Fantastic news!

So glad to hear she is back home. You must post pictures, this implant sounds very interesting. Huuuge hugs and lots of kisses for the wee woman. xx

Oh Prose, I'm so pleased Stella is back home with you and sounding in such good spirits. I've been thinking of her lots with my fingers crossed.

I'd love to see pictures of her new implant, it sounds wonderful!

Lots of love xxx

What happend with her eye in the end?

It was removed and a prosthesis was put in. Originally, I thought we were getting a ping pong ball, so to speak, with the lid sewn up, then a milky blue one with the lid open. I was rather shocked to see the end result. If you didn't know it was a fake one, you'd never guess. The swelling/oozing should be gone in a week or two.

Gina B, I'll definitely post pictures once Stella is a bit more mobile. She's very quiet and still right now. But she was very insistent about being in the middle of us yesterday evening (and slept soundly throughout the night).

No news on the other eye yet but I just want to take each day as it comes.

I wasn't going to take any photos until post-healing, but I had to take one for the vet tech--to determine whether Stella's swelling level is normal, and to determine if everything is acceptable with the large pupil in her good eye--so figured I would post the snap. Not to mention, I think the whole prosthesis thing is pretty darn interesting. The swelling and gunk will go down, and the white in the corner shouldn't show as much afterwards.

Without wishing to jinx anything, the tech did read me the doctor's notes, which said that the angle of her natural eye is nice and wide, and did not believe it to be predisposed to glaucoma. Tests will confirm, but I'm going to take heart in that for now.

Behold--bionic Stella

How funny. Even my neighbour didn't notice what was wrong (aside from the presence of the e-collar).

I'm not sure if the fake eye surgery is performed in the UK (maybe in the bigger London facilities or Liverpool?). It's standard procedure in the Manhattan hospital where Stella had the op (Animal Medical Center)--for a bit of extra money, obviously. I was expecting a ping-pong ball, truth be told. Just goes to show how much veterinary medicine has advanced in recent years.

That is fantastic. Veterinary science is amazing. It has been mentioned more than once in my house that our pets receive better health care than their humans. I'm so happy to see that darling face, truly brightened my day so I can imagine how you are feeling !
