Does anyone have even a rough idea of cost of stem cell therapy treatment. My mare is not insured and she is going for assessment with the hope that there is something more that can be done for her. At the moment further scans, x-rays etc will probably cost in the region of £1500 and I wondered if anyonew knew, as I say even roughly, what the cost of SCT would be and what exactly is involved.

One of mine had it done about 18 months ago, and the total bill was a few quid short of £5k. But this also included her having to stay in hospital for extra days because she wouldn't take her meds orally, and then when she came home the vet was coming out each day for about a week to inject them IV. She also had shock wave treatment as she'd damaged her sesamoid too.

Timescales are important because the stem cells should be injected after the injury has stopped progressing and before scar tissue starts forming. My girl had the bone marrow taken from her about 10 days after the injury and the cells were back and injected in 3 weeks. She was then in plaster for about another 5 weeks.

Whereabouts in the country are you? I'm on the Surrey Hants border and would definitely recommend my vet. PM me if you want to know any more details.
