I'm curious to know how much my horse is moving in his field - I know some people have used GPS dog trackers to work this out but they're quite pricey and seem to require a monthly subscription. Has anyone found a cheaper way of tracking this? Any recommendations? I know nothing about trackers so not really sure where to start beyond plugging "dog tracker" into Amazon.

We looked at getting a tag tracker to hang on the dogs collar whilst away on holiday, just in case she did a runner as last year she took off running across the sand looking for us in the opposite direction to where we were and couldn't hear us due to the wind.

It really shook us up - it was like she was in a daze.

You can buy them on ebay or Amazon.

How long do you plan to use it for? An old Fitbit or similar tracking watch might work? You’d have to set it to walk/run but would probably be ok for a day or to use intermittently. Not sure it would work for longer periods like a week though.

A day would do - I could always "sample" a couple of days a week, and recharge it in between goes. I did wonder about attaching a FitBit or similar to a boot or something, but I wasn't sure whether that was just a barmy idea!

When riding my fitbit records the 2 front feet but not the hinds so it's a proper count of distance. An old fitbit on a front limb should do.

Great! Right....yes this is what I was hoping for. In that case he can have a fitbit on an overreach boot or something. Thanks very much!

I attached a fitbit to mine when I needed to monitor how much he was moving.

It did the job it needed to do but probably wouldn't have survived long term.

If you buy direct there’s a spin for discount thing. It gave me £30 off if that’s any help. I think the code was just SPIN30
