Went to a sponsered ride today, and all the way round Oscar was pulling like mad, and when we did canter or jump, i had no control. A friend suggested a Kimblewick? At the moment he is just in a French link snaffle whch is fine when at home, but not outdoors

Thanks x

Hmm, a french link hanging cheek? French link 2 ring gag? Change your noseband to a flash or a grackle? But then sponsored rides/ xc are always going to involve a slight loss of control :P

I tried a flash on Sun and it worked wonders, i suddenly had loads of control which was great as i really hadnt wanted to take her out of a snaffle! Otherwise, what about http://www.neueschulebits.com/acatalog/Universals___Gags.html 1st or 8th down depending on your needs, or i like Tom Thumb bits, or you could try one of those bits that lots of people have on show ponies(2nd down on link!) . I really dont like the 3 ring gag, i have found way too many horses that hate it! First i would experiment with different mouthpieces. Hope some of that helped, you have loads of options.

It depends on what he is doing... does he put his head in the air to evade the bit, does he put it down? Or does he just set himself against it?
