As cheap as possible????

Some @*$" stole BOTH of mine from the yard () and I desperately need to find a replacement.

Thanks if you can help track one down :)

So are these a kinder alternative to a chifney? I am just interested as it says suitable for young strong horses - I have never seen one before but used a chifney on our TB in the past when he was prone to rearing and tanking off.

Many thanks for the link.... certainly cheaper. I've bought one so hope it's as good as the Stephen's one! The Stephen's version lasted years.... until some tightwad pinched mine :(

No worries- yes I noticed those ones are quite a bit cheaper-I'd be grateful if you could let me know what it's like as I've always had to borrow one in the past!

I hope no one pinches it from you this time!!.....

Have you tried looking at the Dually halter - that's much cheaper at only £40! Even comes with a DVD on how to make the best use of it!

Yes. Do know those. Have a couple of small ones kicking about the place. But the Stephen's is a unique piece of kit. Invaluable when handling big, valuable/excitable horses. I always lead out using it. 99% of the time it'll be redundant as the horse will be leading along quietly on a long rein, but by God is it useful when one explodes or something unexpected happens.

K27 - Mmmm, yes fuming that someone stole both of mine. I ALWAYS, ALWAYS hid them away, out of sight. They're too expensive to leave laying about. Still, someone must have known what they wanted because they rooted about until they found them both. Odd really because the one with the full headstall attachment is black leather and has my name [Liz] burned into the leather quite distinctly. The other, the one which clips onto a headcollar, wasn't marked. Mind you, they're unusual enough to be quite distinct. Goodness knows where mine have ended up 'cos no one on our yard is using them. :(

Update: I got the Mikmar version a couple of weeks ago and have to say that I'm REALLY disappointed with it in comparisson to my [nicked] Stephen's version.

The metal work on the Mikmar is a very lightweight alloy; the nose ring relatively narrow and small, and the leather head peice is too short for a proper full size head. I've supposedly bought the large size Mikmar but the nose ring is a bit too narrow for my 16.1 TB's head! and for it to fit comfortably I have to have the head piece strap done up on the very last hole. It's just too small overall.

I'd say the Mikmar is good, BUT only suitable for dainty headed horses up to 16hh. Or youngsters (<2 yr olds) only. And if you have a chunky headed cob - simply forget it!

The Stephens Controller IS more expensive but a far better investment. Just wish I'd bought one of those instead of this one :(
