My boy is coming home from the vets soon so we can get back to doing some practise for little competition dressage. Last time we went a comment on our sheet was "steps earthbound" - after deciding it wasn't a cryptic clue to a crossword I decided it means he steps a bit heavy - which he does - he is a 16.2 heavy cob and had a blocked nose. He has had a sinus operation now so I can expect him to be more active but does anyone have any ideas on how we can get him more active and less on his front? We have only done a couple of prelim competitions with scores from 54% (bucking and being naughty

) to 66 and a bit %. I thought I might try half halting before we do a new manouver and putting some ground poles down to circle and serpentine over.

Has anyone got any more suggestions please?

I wish judges would avoid too much jargen like that!! I wouldn't really know what that meant except perhaps on the forehand....

I think it is great that you guys are out and about and 66% is a very respectable score

you should be really proud. Yes, half halting is very important and even more important is for your horse to listen to you but you are already well on your way.

Good luck and have fun!

I wasn't really sure until I saw some photos taken on the day - I think he was feeling tired with his sinuses and even in the photos he just looked heavy so I suppose it was a good description. The lady who teaches me is the writer for the judge so I will take the sheet along for her to interpret - I also want to know what OB means - I presume it is overbent!

I've had earthbound comment off a List 1 judge before - she meant on forehand Cambs/S Lincs area???

Best one I got was "Overturned at A" - I'm sure he stayed on all 4 feet!
