Why are some people so judgemental about horse breed and stereotype them as they dont like them

Its like horse racism...

I dont like these well I hate these etc....

There are breeds I wouldnt own or maybe some I wouldnt ride (due to my size/height etc) but I couldnt just write of a whole breed and look down my nose at them because they werent suitable for me

Is it just me are do other people think this too?

Pony is a cracker though ! You'll find a lot of support for coloureds on here, and loads of us have coloured cobs and ADORE them !

Shy has surprised a lot of people - but his biggest talent is being such a king hearted gentleman, who will look after me whatever. I do not care what other people think of us anymore.

Thought this was about narrow-minded horses and was going to say all about my old horse who would pretend to be scared of anything that wan't 15.2hh and fairly smart looking in a normal colour. He was awful with cobs and would pretend to be scared of them (he'd spook and shy away). And even worst with coloured horses. It was actually embarrassing.

People are entitled to their opinions. There are loads of horse types and breeds I don't like and wouldn't choose to own. That doesn't mean I can't appreciate the good examples within the breed, or like individuals of that breed which I encounter.

Normally my opinions are dictated by poor standards of breeding or blinkered breeding programmes which are detrimental to welfare of individuals of that breed, which I think are pretty justified concerns, to be honest.

Try owning an Arab, people feel the need to tell me how crap they are. Arabs are stupid, flighty, ugly and cant jump why didn't you buy a proper horse.
Love the fact that plastic bag blows into the field and haters horse flips its lid tearing round the field tail over its back( clearly an Arab wannbe) while my crazy Arab chases said bag thinking its a game.
Some people are just stupid and I'm afraid there is no cure for stupid.

I have had people look down their nose at my hairy, called him ugly and said he should be in front of a cart. However I think he is gorgeous and people have actually stopped their cars mid traffic to tell me hes lovely so I listen to them and ignore the ignorants. I do feel I get horse 'racism' but that is the idiots problem not mine.

P.s. Person who called him ugly got kicked in the head by his warmblood the next week. Was fine but has pretty 'ugly' scar. Thats called karma!

My old boy went through a phase of disliking coloured horses, we were at a comp and he got cut up in the warm up really badly a few times by the same horse, for months after that he would pull faces in the warm up at all coloured horses - he was definitely racist !

There will always be ignorant people in all areas of life that don't use their own mind to make judgements and there will always be a few who live up to the steriotypes and are used to 'prove a point' - I like to make up my own mind and encourage others to do the same

I'll admit I sometimes get a bit upset when I read/ hear comments like "I HATE Arabs"...it always seems to be so emphatic, as though the poster/ person speaking really does hate them (and it's quite a strong word!)...and I just don't get why!! I don't "hate" any breed of horse, because I like horses, so I couldn't "hate" or even dislike a horse just because of its breed. My own little mare is an Arab, but that isn't all she is, I don't define her by the fact that she's an Arab, if that makes sense? She's a fab happy hacker, great to handle, incredibly good fun, delightfully naughty and rebellious for her age (in a good way, not a bad, dangerous way) and generally an absolute sweetheart. People often comment that "she's so good for an Arab" and I always think that maybe the truth is that Arabs don't deserve their reputation...and people shouldn't judge a horse by its breed but as an individual horse....
Anyway, I'm rambling, but my point is that it annoys me too Springy :D

Mmmm. I'm maybe guilty of saying something similar, but when I say I "don't like cobs", I mean I wouldn't want to own one. Nothing really against cobs, they're just not for me. I prefer something lighter but a couple of my friends have some stunners - still wouldn't want either of them, but then they love my Thoroughbred, but wouldn't want him.

Was buying some feed etc in Decathlon today and this woman (who boastfully almost shouted she had NINE, as opposed to my mere TWO, horses) was slagging off my choice of feeds  Then proceded to go on about how ALL Thoroughbreds are nuts and I should get a cob. Luv, if i wanted a cob, I would have bought one. And she hoped I have them stabled as they're delicate things. I find it's the owner that actually puts me off the horse, not necessarily the horse although there are types I wouldn't want to buy.

Imagine turning your nose up any one of her NINE horses!!! :D

Each to their own, but I do get a bit tired of cob racism, hom hum ..... However, I own both a cob and a KWPN/TB who is coloured, so have a foot in both camps.

Weird people out there you know :-)

I love horses, there are some types that I like more than others, there are many I adore but I couldn't ride one side of. I'm happy with my horses, and that's the most important thing (although when somebody tells me that they like my horse, it does make me feel all smiley!)

Someone on tumblr put this

"I don’t like Standardbreds. I don’t like the shape of their heads, I’m not a huge fan of their movement, every single one that I’ve met was pushy and rude.
And guess what? That’s okay. I’m entitled to my own opinion, which is based on my past experiences, which are different for everyone.
Mini rant over."

I replied and said it was a tad rude and you shouldn't tar a whole breed by a few horses.

I won't post the reply (I doubt I can find it, I un-watched them) because they got very aggressive and swore a LOT!

People swear and rant when they have run out of vocabulary usually when they are wrong!!!

LOL

I adore big hairy cobs!! But equally I love a nice WB - it depends on the horse. I've known some cobs who have been bolshy pigs, and the same can be said about some mega expensive WB's I have encountered too!

I used to get allsorts of criticism whilst showing my coloured standard shetland...we then proceeded to wipe the floor with the competition!! Smug? Me? Noooo! ;) :D

Actually, Nah, I don't think that's an offensive or rude thing to post - if she doesn't like their facial appearance or their gaits, that is her perogative, assuming your phrasing is accurate. "I don't like..." is very different from "they are all ugly" - the former is personal opinion, the latter implies an empirical or objective ruling. Ditto, "all the ones I have met have been rude" is not saying that all of them are rude, but the poster has not had the fortune of meeting a well mannered one. Since some breeds do tend to be more belligerent and less likely to be well mannered than others (shetland, anyone?) and it's not inconceivable to extrapolate an opinion on likely temperament on the basis of the horses you've known anyway.

I'm not defending what she's saying. I have almost no opinions on standardbreds at all, but I do have an opinion on freedom of expression. It's especially relevant that she posted on tumblr - if I were to post those comments on a thread of yours on here, it would be rude - I would be suggesting that I didn't like Ned's head, that I didn't like his gaits and that I thought he was probably ill mannered. If I were to post similar comments on my tumblr, without reference to anyone's individual animal, I don't see that it is rude to express a personal preference.

To each the favourite of his heart and all that

eta- the swearing afterwards was rude though :p

I love all well mannered horses regardless of breed but I am a sucker for a pretty head and I know that is very shallow. My pet hate is rude and nasty people and their usually rude and pushy horses

I tell people I own an ex racer and I either get 'you must be a really confident rider then!' or 'do you have problems with his legs? i wouldn't touch an ex racehorse personally'.

It's funny because he's the perfect first horse and a very easy novice ride :) I'm quite smug about owning such a laid back thoroughbred :D

I don't mind people not liking Standies, people can like what they like, obviously.
It's that persons attitude that sucks. I had read a few of their replies to other people before I replied and they are just plain rude. They seem to have some weird vendetta against the breed. They generalised and stereotyped and swore a lot! Some fit stereotypes, (We have a lazy cob and a nutty ex racer) but I don't like it when people do it.
