Cob x, 15.3hh, weight 640kg, age 19

lets see what quoestions I get asked (if any) .... before the slating starts for him being obese .........

anyone with any sense would clearly want a condition score rather than a weight which is likely inaccurate if by weight tape or not useful by weigh bridge as it is irrelevant - no indication of conformation / HW vs LW etc.

Thank you guys, was hoping for someone at least to have a sensible response and to have 2 is brill.

Maybe some of us do think and want to see the bigger picture, not just numbers !

Cheers

I had an admittely tubby 15.2hh WBX (good bone, granddam was a Clyde X) that needed regumate but didnt know how much she weighed, she didnt have fat pads or a cleft bum just a larger grass belly than normal. The vet looked her over and said smugly, better dose her for 600kg. now I was embarrassed and mortified and all the way home kept thinking "I know she's over weight but not that overweight". Took her home weight taped her and she came in at 480kg!

I must admit, i weight tape weekly to see any fluctuations in weight and dont hold anything by it. Vet saw him earlier this year when he was slightly lighter and said that he would not like to see any less weight. So just use it as a gauge of movement.

some of us dont have luxury of weigh bridge nearby or the ability to box up to get to one. Weight tapes do have their place.
