So, assuming my horse is reacting to it's internal stitches like the vet has told me it is, would I be totally wrong to think this would be a sensible way to go? I'm pretty sure taking the dissolveable things out isn't going to be an option as it involves (presumably) cutting her open again and this in turn brings about all the issues I've already had with bandaging etc.

I am going a bit mental sitting here waiting for the vet to ring me back. I can't help feeling we should be doing something a bit more pro active than just ignoring it!

Could be worth asking about giving pirton to help however due to the size you would have to give a lot more my mare is 14.2 weighs 480 and when she is bad reaction to something has 4 tablets every 4-6 hrs for a few days. I start with the liquid version as it gets into the system quicker to start working then go onto the tablets. Only thing is if you buy it behind the counter at a pharmacy they cant sell it to you to use on a animal can only sell to use on yourself.

I would think they wouldn't want to give her steroids in case it triggers her lami again.

I did think that, but then I thought perhaps they would anyway. I certainly see no reason not to give anti histamine. If she doesn't come right this time it's probably going to have serious implications with regards to what I do with her so I'd almost be happy to risk the lami, if it was actually going to work of course, given that it is probably the lesser of two evils. I wish the vets would hurry up and call me back so I can actually talk some of this stuff over with them. Sigh.

Do you find it helps? I had a mare on antihistamine (prescribed by the vets) before and I couldn't tell much difference but if it has worked for anyone I'd be willing to give it a go. Realistically it's a bit late in the game for antihistamine but it might help a little bit I suppose.

PS, didn't know you could buy liquid piriton. What a good idea :)

I suspect they would want to avoid steroid as it'll affect how the surgery site heals as well.

Let us know what they say when they call...hope she improves soon!

A bit off topic, but out of interest, does piriton make horses sleepy? I used to be on it, and it would knock me out. I'd take it in the morning and halfway through the afternoon I'd be asleep on my desk at work.

Does it not have that effect on equines?

fortunately it is allowed to go out. Hurrah. psychotic animal!

She will have some turnout and a proper course of Danilon and see if that brings it down a bit. If, after the stitches are supposed to be dissolved, it is still big we will rethink.

I am just really relieved to be able to get out of my in hand walking duties. They are getting quite lairey!

She scared me this morning Puppy. I am not easily scared either. I thought we were both going to have a horrible accident. As soon as I get home this evening I'm going to fill her with acp and then put her out. The sooner the better.

Well they type on the box can make them tired i got 500 on a private script for my mare and yes it does help her she gets bad reactions to her skin all the time she has hyper sensitive skin and cant have steroids due to the lami risk she has had it already once this year.

Yep the liquid has been around for years, get a own brand version much cheaper and does the same thing for half the price i just use one from work its the active ingredient in it that is the same as piriton.
