Hi i posted on here a while ago about my boys problems with his sacroiliac joint ,my vet recommend 14 weeks box rest with in hand walking ,followed by limited turnout increasing to ridden work in walk for 20 mins ,my boys sacroiliac joint was unstable so the box rest was needed to stabilize the joint.my boy was improving but after 2 weeks of ridden work he has gone lame again  my vet thinks he has strained himself again ,not as bad as the original injury ,he has recommended steroid injections ,i have done a lot of research and i am remaining hopeful i can get him sound .Really would appreciate it if anyone could share their experiences good or bad ,many thanks in advance x

So sorry your having a set back Bings. My lad has had the injection but it was for bony changes not a strain. I was told there was a 50/50 chance of it actually reaching the correct area and from what I understand the steroids should help straight away if they work. I couldn't see any improvement straight away but he had Tildren at the same time and within 2 weeks he improved a lot so not sure if the steroid jab did much good or not - sorry - but I'm just glad I'm back riding him again. I did say at the time I wouldn't let him have it again though because, even with heavy sedation, apparently he nearly took a few people out during the process!!!

My six year old cob has had PRP and steroids into his sacroiliac , after seven days of ridden work he started to go wrong again, he to has had box rest etc he was also doing twenty minutes a day exercise.

So he is off to an alternative vet called Donna Blinman. I feel these horses are being injected here , there and everywhere and we are sent on our merry way, with not enough proper rehab after care, and they are expected to get on with it to quickly.

His injury is an old trauma injury that he would have done as a youngster, that now has arthritic changes he went 3/5 ths over night.

I think he probably needs turning away for possibly a year, I feel there is an awful lot to be said for Dr Green, because of insurance only lasting a year we are all after a quick fix.

My boy had to have seven weeks barn rest, which was better than box rest, I was completely against it but did as I was told, when he was finally turned out he exploded it would have been better letting him stay out, yes he came sound quicker in the short term but long term I don't think it will have made any difference.

So I advise you to give Donna a ring, so you can look at all your options, the initial one hour consultation is £100 , I have £500 alternative therapy on my insurance.
