Interested to here from anyone who has had the steroid injections done on their horses joints. Just had one of my horses injected in her stifle for arthritis after a lot of nerve blocking and x-rays in other joints to get to the route of the lameness. Its been about ten days since injections and we have done a trot up ourselves and she appears to be sound but i doubt very much if she would pass a flex test. I will be quite happy if she is sound enough for hacking only. If you have any experiences of steroid and the other stuff they inject into arthtritic joints good or bad please post a reply.

Hi over the passed 2 year my girlie has had two steriod injections in her coffin joint and one in her pastern she has high articular ringbone in her font near fore but always blocked to her coffin joint she was lame for two months came sound days after having steriod injection and remained sound for nine months until pratted around on hard ground again came sound after steriod injection. She always responds well to them she is in full work working at novice dressage level. I had a great vet who gave me all the info i needed before i decided to go with steriods they work well for her and it means she can keep working which is what she enjoys she hates being a lawn mower!
I hope they work as well for yours as they have for mine x

A combination injection of cortisone and hyaluronic acid works well, but it is only a temporary fix. Usually, the horse has to be re-injected every few months if he/she is going to stay in work.

Interested in these responses, my TB had steroid injections into both hocks 6 weeks ago, vet said she's 50% less lame, but wants to repeat them in another 2 weeks. I can't see THAT much difference in her, I did after 3 weeks, but not so much now.

Hi, My mare was diagnosed with arthritis in her hocks about 3 months ago. She has had the steriod injections and seems fine, in fact we did our first novice dressage test on Sunday and came 4th with 65% so i was chuffed. I hope yur neddy is fit and better soon.

The Steroids are not recommended unless prescribed by a doctor. Illegal steroids will stunt for growth, shrink our penis, gives us headaches, lead to bouts of anger, and can even start to kill of living tissue. I read a story of a body builder who abused steroids all his life. He eventually just passed out one way and was hospitalized for a full year. At one point he looked down at his legs to see maggots eating his flesh, because his cells were just decaying on him. He did survive, but it was a very long ans painful recovery. Now he's small, thin and lean and into yoga and other types of fitness like that.
