Hi all

Wow a busy 2 days, Steve was on form taking groups from 2ft upwards, baby horses and novice riders up to friend who was at HOYS last week

I tried to take pics of all horses and have ended up with 300 photos

The weather stayed mostly dry with the best of the sun today and last night we retired to the pub for a hearty meal.

Both days we worked on courses but both different, working on related distances and dog legs. Can't help but thinking he is the voice from the telly

I really think the more times he comes and gives clinics the more I get out of it as he knows Saf now, he said and I totally agree, she has her own unorthoxod style but lots of scope and rather difficult to ride, one he would not like himself

Blimey I am suprised he had you jumping that big, must be 1.20/25?! I wouldn't normally even jump that big at home!

What were steve's words of wisdom then, would love to know?!
 
Why suprised? Yes it was 120/130 at the end and we are jumping BE Nov and BSJA at New (double clear last time out so 120 in the JO) so surley this is the next level we should be training at? We only jump at comps and a couple of times outside that.

Looks fab, but watching the video he's right - she does have a 'special' way of jumping and you don't really get that from the stills. She got plenty jump though hasn't she!

I agree with you re. height. You def need to be schooling that height at home for 1*/New/Fox height competitions

Thanks Gamebird, yes she is "special" lol, so hard as each day she seems to come out different. She has that straight neck and back style, and likes to dart 4 or 5 strides out, have to love her tho

Thought for a mo I was pushing her too big from above post, nice to have it confirmed and I'm sure Steve knows us enough now to only build what we are capable of.

Saf looks like she could jump higher and higher.

HAHA I use to do that with my righthand also. They use to call me superwoman lol I sooned stopped.

I would also be holding the mane, think it's an eminently sensible approach, and would be putting the other hand over my eyes!!!

Any words of wisdom from him interested in the way you say she darts the last few strides, Sienna does this, wonder if it's a mare thing...
 
YEY ! Some of the pics came out ok !
You definatley werent over jumping her height wise ! its exactly what you need to be jumping and then for the next session you should jump higher than that as hopefully you'll be jumping some fox at comps !

WOW.... she has pleanty of scope and ability doesn't she. Ok so it's unorthodox but she does the job as good as and better than most!

I love that picture over the black and white oxer (I'm not the only one who grabs with the right! - although that comes from my days as a junior at home on my mums big showjumpers and bracing myself for landing haha!!! - now its just habbit!)

well done you though and i don't think your training too big at all - i do think that your doing a cracking job and you both could go alot further

looks fine to me, nice rhythm and you're seeing good distances everywhere. if you soften your hands a bit on the last few strides, does she soften too, or accelerate? if she'll let you hold her rhythm and canter with seat and legs rather than in front, i'd like to see that - she's just jumping a little too inverted for my liking.
they are big jumps, but she's perfectly happy over them (as are you by the looks of it) but i'd want her to be basculing a bit to give herself a bit more room behind, and to help her lift her shoulders a bit, and because it should be more comfy for her too!
what's she got in her chops, by the way? have you tried a hackamore, just an idea as some mares who invert go much better in one. just a question, not a suggestion though, you both look great!
 
Hope you have a fantastic time at the clinic, don't worry he will only get you to jump what you want too, I wanted to jump that size to make the move up to fox

When she darts, sometimes like a mad dash

Steve will have me canter towards the fence and stop, not close to the fence as don't like that but a little way out and then repeat, only when she is sensible will I come to the fence and that is more often than not much softer and sensible

Hope that makes some sort of sense, also softening towards the fence with my hands and not holding her off like I tend to do

I do try to soften my hands the last few strides and she will soften slightly if the fences are bigger but will still charge if smaller and then I feel like I am pulling her off the fence, catch 22 and all that. Its a work in progress, trouble is I'm getting older and slower in my brain, have it all up in the noggin its just getting it all right at the same time

If I remember to use seat and shoulders she is always better but due to her being big and me small she often gets me forward and then she is in control

I agree she has always jumped like this (inverted) even loose? Steve encourages me to get her deeper to the fence and then she makes a better shape, she actually jumped me out of the saddle on one

She is in a universal but on the snaffle, funny you should say about a hackamore did SJ in one for a season with great sucess but had a bit of a fright when she galloped off with me for about a mile in it around our farm and put it in the bottom of my bit collection

Fab! Always wanted to have a clinic/lesson with him as i've heard alot of good things. I see you're in Surrey.. whereabouts do you go to his clinics? (I'm near Tunbridge Wells so wondering if he does any over this way!)
