Sticking tongue out!

My horse does this when I ride him. He ridden in a JP french link, and has just had his teeth done (about a month ago). Hes a cob so does have a big fleshy mouth and tongue, so assuming that thers not enough room in there for it. Would a thinner bit help? Someone suggested he might be getting his tongue over the bit but I cant really tell. Anyone any ideas?

Hop off and peer in his gob to see if he has his tongue over the bit!!!! Lift his lips halfway along his mouth and see if you can see the metal of the bit on top of his tongue. I used to ride out with a friend whose horse flopped his tongue out all the time! She said she had heard that horses often do it when they are nervous and her boyo used to not do it sometimes so dunno how much truth in that. Was watching showjumping on Sky the other day and there were a good few horses there with tongues lolling out half a mile so you're in good company if nothing else!

Also they do it when they have teeth coming assuming the horse is young. My friend tried everything to get hers to stop but he never did. I saw them on tv too!!!!

Hes 11 so I dont think he counts as a youngster anymore

Often caused from the horse avoiding the tongue pressure of the bit (french links do press down quite sharply)

A verbindend neue schule or conrad sprenger bit should do the trick if this is the cause.
