Sticky eye?

Nothing serious but the big lump had a sticky eye this morning probably just got a spec of shavings or something in it. Can I use Optrex on a horse or is it best left alone ??

yes I used it on mine and cleared it up within few days

Yes but my vet says the best thing is cold tea (obviously no milk or sugar lol) x

Ive bathed my mares eyes with lukewarm salt water before now when shes had sticky eye. Cleared it quickly but have also heard of people on our yard using Golden Eye, available from the chemist.

i've always used a wet tea bag held over the eye for a few mins, repeated as and when needed, it does work honestly!

Take great care Flibble and everyone. Homemade remedies or over the counter stuff for humans at best only soothe tired or sore eyes. They won't cure an infection that's causing a sticky eye. Salt water is an irritant in eyes. Plain cooled boiled water is best or the cold tea bag option if all you want to do is soothe. I'd keep a very close watch on your ned's eyes F because a sticky eye can also mean an infection causing conjunctivitis, which will need antibiotics to cure it. Best thing is, if your ned has a sore or sticky eye or could have had a scratch on the cornea or could still have a foreign body in it, ask yourself, if I had an eye problem like that, would I just slap a cold teabag on it or would I go to the Dr?
