I have a vet coming out at the end of the week as my horse is very stiff in his hind leg for about half a dozen strides when she comes out of the stable. I have a pretty good idea that it will be arthritis in her hock so vet is bringing out the X Ray machine in case so that I only pay for 1 visit. The horses are in during the day and also at night because the fields are flooded, is it wise to hack her gently in a straight line only until she sees the vet? Only asking as she soon loosens up. Please no nasty comments about the stabling as it is out of my control - she does get turnout in the pen.

Agree with above. Could you take her a second walk in hand, even for 5-10 minutes before you settle them in for the night too?

If she loosens up after a few strides, then I would absolutely be keeping her moving, including under saddle if she's comfortable. Good luck with the X-Rays, you might find some steroid injections give her some comfort x
Thank you I needed the reassurance re the gentle riding 🤭

Movement is good for arthritis as long as they are up for it. Hope it's not too serious. I manage my arthritic with Cartrophen and bute and was discussing another round of steroids (was 3 years ago we last did them). If in shoes, have personally found mine to be far happier barefoot as well.
