Hi all,

Last couple of mornings pony has been quite stiff going out to the field. Trotted up sound and fine coming in pm and fine ridden that evening.

He turned 5 in June and is a Welsh D so wont stop growing until he's 7. He's always been stabled at night so no change in mangement.

Should I be worried?

Just less willing to move forward and doing a bit of a stretch 1st (not a great big stretch).

He is VERY lazy to lead anywhere at any time and just moseys along, he's very laid back about everything in life, so I don't know if he's just less enthused about the field now there's less grass and it's colder or whether it's the start of spavin? Or do horses get "growing pains" like teenagers?

What work does he do ridden, and does he lack forwards in any of that?

What balancer or vits/mins are you giving him, and does he get the full daily ration?

Have you ever had your grass/hay analysed for minerals?

He does a couple of schooling sessions a week (about half an hour), hacks in walk and does the odd x pole. He's usually ridden 4 days a week but none of it high impact. He is a very lazy pony and always has been, that was why I bought him as I wanted something super quiet to rebuild my confidence. He's much more forward than he used to be though and gets quite forwards jumping or in company. He has not been any less forward to ride in the last few days when he's been stiff in the morning. Over the last 9 months he has grown 1.5" at the wither and I think is late maturing?

He gets over the required quantity of Safe and Sound a day (and that should contain all the vit's etc he needs according to their feedline), he gets Alfa Beet, soya oil and a measure of linseed. He gets adlib hay / haylage (mixed). And he gets a GreenGold brass block too. He gets his feed in 3 feeds a day (8am, 4pm, 8.30pm) Never had his grass etc analysed.
