I was interested to hear about people's stifle recovery stories.

My horse has recently been diagnosed on nerve block, x-ray and ultrasound with some inflammation in both stifle joints. We seem to have caught it before any arthritic changes. He has been stiff behind rather than overtly lame.

He was injected with Depo and HA in both joints a few days ago. He will be walked in hand for a week or so and then will start easy walk exercise under saddle for a further couple of weeks.
We know he has SI pain also (probably as a result of the stifle pain) but as he has EMS we were not able to inject that at the same time. The vet will review him in a few weeks to make a decision on whether to inject the SI.

I know every horse is different, but I have never managed a stifle rehab before, and wondered how long it took after injections for others to see improvement in their horse's movement and comfort. He is already starting to stand differently and seems brighter. Previously he would stand with his hind limb pushed right forward under his midline and his back looked dipped but he is now starting to stand square behind and his back is coming up. I will not be rushing him back to work.

Hi, just wanted to ask how your horse is getting on since the injections? Mine has just had one stifle injected due to inflammation, too early to see if it’s made a difference yet but would be interesting to know if you found it has helped yours or not?

It was game changing for us. We had been treating his hocks for so long and never focused on the stifles. That said the real improvement came after the mesotherapy in his back as I suspect he had been compensating for so long.

That’s brilliant to hear, so pleased for you! Thank you for taking the time to reply, it’s nice to hear a success story!
