Stifness when stabled

Morning, i started bringing my girl in on friday night she was fine when i turned her out both saturday and sunday however this morning she was veery very stiff.
I'm not sure if she had not long been up and had chance to stretch it off as i was up the yard a few hours earlier then i am at the weekend.
She is due to be shod as i have to have her done every 5-6 weeks and its just gone 7 as farrier has been away so im not sure if it has something to do with that.

I'm meant to have a lesson tonight so i will see how she is if it is just when she goes out in the morning or if she does seem to be 'stiff' in general. I have ridden over the weekend and she was ok.

Anyone else suffer this, any advice etc?! Shes on cod liver oil but open to other suggestions!!

yeah i mean she has lived out 24/7 for about 5-6 months so i spose that doesn't help plus i did hack her out then put her to bed straight after.

Just a panicy mummy!!!
 
Have you tried using leg wraps (premier equine do some nice ones which are cheap) to keep her legs warm at night? Sounds like the cold weather combined with her suddenly coming in is just getting to her. Personaly i wouldnt worry, but i would invest in some leg wraps

Thanks hun, that was an idea at the back of my mind, she is double rugged and not sweating so proves that it must be bloody cold, how do i no what size to order on these? Shes a 16hh IDx . So would you put these on and leaev them on all night in her stable? x
 
yeah i'll keep an eye on her i no what im like sometimes when i don't move for awhile you just need to walk it off.

I just worry about things like this, i will invest in some leg wraps i think to keep her leggy pegs warm
 
Yup - Archie wears them all night. I think his are large size. He has quite thin legs, and they are large on him, but i like them a bit bigger as it makes them more padded

Hard one to answer really. Depends what you mean by ‘stiff’ – could it be a lameness or soreness through the back (tweaked something on standing up, spooked over-night by fireworks or something?), or a genuine stiffness that walks off quite quickly. Could be age related (sorry Kim, don’t know horse’s credentials!), could just be cold, could be pottery on long feet.

Think you just have to play it by ear. Worth putting horsey on a joint supplement if prone to stiffness though, but possibly a bit premature to be going down this route after one day…
 
i dont think its seriouse soo i dont think it would of spooked and i think he just stood still for a ong time dont worry about it

Well looks worse then i thouht, got her in hopping lame, looks like tendon or suspensiony ligament, cold packed it and bandaged her up shes now on box rest for a good two weeks then see whats going on, totally gutted as we were really coming on.
 
Kim - you say that horsey-o has to be shod every 5 - 6 weeks. Anything iffy in that? Foot probs? Old foot probs eg laminitis? Was wondering if she is standing on concrete... What bedding does she have?
 
Sorry to hear that your mare is worse than you thought, and hope the vet diagnoses soon whether it is tendons, ligaments or something else going on.

We use the Thermatex leg wraps when ours are in at night, and it does seem to keep them warm and comfortable. One of ours has arthritis and it most definitely helps her.
