Well it’s been a heck of a year.
After a near nervous breakdown back in the spring I impulsively decided to give up my little privately rented yard behind my house (now occupied by another HHO member) sold my gorgeous youngster and threatening to give up everything and sell my 13hh pony realised that I could not because:

1) he has a devoted fan in the form of a child who has been riding my ponies for six years

2) he is a bit of a twithead and I would no doubt get thousands for him, blow it on pop tarts then come home from work to find him tied to my front door handle with a letter demanding a refund tucked in to his headcollar

so this starts me on a search for a livery yard having never needed one for more than the odd month in the past.
oh my goodness what a world of crazies it is out there!!

‘You can’t have yellow or orange wheelbarrows’

‘you must feed my donkey/Rottweiler/angry ferrets as part of the deal’

‘you cannot use the school on Tuesday between 6am and 11pm, not at all on Wednesdays and not the weekend unless the wind is blowing due west and only then if it’s not December, April, august or October’

‘turnout is 24/7 until you move in then it’s anything between 24/never and when heck freezes over’

my mind was getting close to exploding when a local yard owner who rarely has vacancies contacted me and after a panicky three weeks where I tried to cram three acres, a hay store and a tack room full of belongings in to a space three pallets long we moved in with little fuss otherwise.

what a revelation, with no maintenance to worry about and a reduction to one pony we have concentrated on the pony with amazing results.

we have had our best year ever. This pony is not an easy one but my goodness is the work paying off now.

the little girl is now 12 and works her backside off with this pony. I can remember her first ever show when she was 6, she got well and truly hooked!

I was saddened to see the recent post about show ponies, this boy to me is a show pony but he is first and foremost an athlete and leads a varied and happy life.

the child is getting close to outgrowing him but the good times are still coming thick and fast.

What a lovely post, and a great reminder that sometimes when it all seems more trouble that it's worth a re-think and change of approach can bring back the joy
Very well done all of you and may the good times continue

I'm so glad the move to the livery yard worked out for you and the pony. Pony is gorgeous and they make such a nice combination together.

She needs to stop growing! Or you'll have to collect bigger versions.

Pony looks absolutely fabulous and I love, love that beach shot. So glad you got it all worked out in the end and I think you managed to summarise many of the livery yards I've looked at over the years too :p

Thank you all. I’m so glad I didn’t give everything up.
mot just goes to show that what may be one persons dream (private small yard) is not for everyone!
