I'm still looking for a jrt type terrier to join our family. Problem seems to be getting something that is happy with our 2 labs. Looking for a bitch up to 3 years of age. Rescue/rehome. A lot seem to need to be an only dog. We are in South lincs.

I had the same problem and ended up with a puppy 2 weeks ago. Some of the breeders I spoke to (registered breeders not on gumtree etc) kept some back for showing and if they don't make the grade move them on when they are older - worth a ring round? Not rescue but so many rescues didn't want to rehome as the dog had to be an only dog, we had to not work (I work 2 days a week when I use a dog walker and my husband comes home early from his work - not good enough), and the final one was no contact with any children (we have a 3yo granddaughter visiting weekly).
We are an experienced semi rural home with direct access to the common from the house and a quiet location, with a good sized very secure rear garden. Dogs Trust refused to even consider us, RSPCA I avoid personally and most of the others were no other dogs no children. I gave up but was so frustrated as we would have happily offered a happy home to several dogs on websites.

it seems that the rescues dont have small dogs that can live with others. i looked for a dog that was smaller than my border collie cross and about 8 to 10 years old. i thought they would be happy to rehome an older dog with a good tempered older border collie cross. no, i couldnt find anything so ended up getting a puppy, so i would suggest you look on preloved or pets4homes to find one as you may find you will have a very long wait!!

Look at the local rescues, Ive fostered loads of dogs that were good with other dogs, I would have taken it as an insult to try and rehome a dog that had to be the only dog and the small
local rescues dont have ridiculous criteria, people have to work, we cant all be lottery winners or retired.

Most of the local rescues round here require the dog not to be left alone for more than a few hours and 6ft high fencing. The rescue that doesn't require these don't really assess their dogs so a number get returned as they won't settle with other dogs. We live on a farm with access directly onto hundreds of acres of walking. Our dogs live inside , mostly on the sofa! We have 2 labs so need something small so we can all fit on the sofa!! I really wanted a rescue but we have to be very careful as we have a 10 month fox red who we are training to be a gundog and the last thing we want is something snapping at her ruining her confidence. We are in no rush but it's looking more and more likely we will end up with a puppy.
