As the title says, my 13 year old Connie x is still moulting and it's nearly July! Last year he had his summer coat through and I noticed the other horses on the yard all have nice summer coats. He's only moulting on his rump and sides and I'm getting a bit worried anyone else have the same problem?

I've got a welsh sec B that's still moulting, lots of patchy winter coat still on her. I got so worried, I had the free Cushings test done, which thankfully came back negative, so no real answers. I've bathed her, and still her coat hangs on. She has Baileys No 14 balancer, so it shouldn't be a deficiency? I've only had her since March this year, so not sure if this is norm for her or not?

Yes!! Our shetland is exactly the same. The first year she's not got all her summer coat through at this time. Her winter coat was ridiculously thick though with the horrible spring we had. It is coming out though, although the only way to describe it is like a bald man who's just got the strip of hair around the sides and bottom! As she has summer coat across her back to half way down then the rest is still winter!

Don't worry. Lots of horses are late shedding their coats this year. Even the yearling at our yard still has a few winter hairs left. You can see the clip lines still on two others as well. I think it is due to the late spring. Coat changes are triggered by the amount of daylight hours. We had so many dark cold days, I think the amount of light was much less this Spring.

Yes. I hope mine hurries up and finishes shedding because last year he started getting his winter coat again in the middle of July and I want at least a week with his nice summer coat.

At least I'm not the only one! Muddfukkle - I was starting to worry about cushings too, just didnt want to say it.

Gloi - I was thinking the same, is he going to get any summer coat this year!
