STILL no blacksmith...shoes falling off... think i might cry!!!

Sorry feeling so stressed about this now - don't know if anyone read my post yesterday about blacksmiths, but here I am today, still can't get hold of mine who didn't turn up tuesday, trying to arrange to take horse down to another guy this afternoon (I spoke to him this morning and he suggested he might be able to do 4.30) but he won't phone me back or answer his mobile... So now don't know whether to go and hope he's there, try someone else or what.
In the meantime horse still on 3 shoes which are now practically falling off - we have horrible long feet, risen clenches, clinking - the lot; weekend coming up fast and a 3 day course at the YRC booked on Monday, and I can't possibly take her with feet like that

Rang the YO for some support and to see if farrier had got in touch (no!) and she couldn't have been less interested if she tried.
What a NIGHTMARE!!!
 
take them off yourself, definitely. they can't do any harm then... if the horse loosens one any more, and it twists, and he steps back on the nail... nasty. i would have them off as fast as possible. horse is better off barefoot until you can get your farrier... murder him after he's done the job!
 
I think if it doesn't work out today I'm going to have to do that. Would have done it before but i need some help as don't really feel confident doing it myself.
 
Phone up your vet and ask him if he has a retained farrier for remedial shoing. Alternatively try other local yards or public yards that have a different farrier and see if they can shoe your horse

Alternatively phone up the farriers registration council explain your problem and ask them to get your farrier to you...................................

- wish I'd known - Farrier just left my yard! Seriously, try Julian or Sam as per my PM.
If it helps, tell Sam I reccommended him to you as a v good farrier. Might work?

get your farrier to show you (if you ever get hold of him) and get some kit for it. imo every yard should have shoe removal kit... it can save a fortune in vet's bills if you can take off a dodgy shoe rather than having the horse puncture his sole. your yard owner needs a kick up the bum, imho.
 
thanks I will. my dad knows how to do it and has some kit, will definitely be learning in future after this experience!!! and yes she does need a kick up the bum but sadly I am too much of a wimp to do it

Hope you get hold of a farrier soon, it took me 2 weeks to get a farrier to my boy, a farrier on the yard to do another horse wouldn't even look at him. Took 3 months to get a farrier out to my mare I was absolutely hysterical (in the worried and angry sense)!
 
Also, I dont want to be spreading doom adn gloom but the ILPH, RSPCA, VETS etc in my experience WONT help you as they cant! When I moved my current horse home my farrier messed around then never answered calls etc, it took me 7 months to get another one - but I kept in contact with all the charities so that if he ever got reported I could prove that I was trying! It finally took me moving him to a yard to get a farrier! It is ridiculous that no charity or the farriers registry council can help!!

Sorry, but it was a VERY sore point for me!
 
I hope you get hold of the farrier soon. My farrier is excellent, if he says that he will be there at a certain time, then he is, either 5mins early, on time or 5 mins late. However, he insists on the horse being ready with clean legs and feet. My farrier is now at the stage of his career where he can pick and choose his customers. So if your horse isnt ready he will drop you very quickly. I wish more farriers were like him. The majority of farriers in my local area are very unreliable.
