The dentist came out today and she was fab. The bigger one had a wolf tooth out and some general work to tidy her up and she is definitely 4 which is good to get that cleared up! The little colty had an 'educational float' which is where she just played around in his mouth and got him used to the tools. She then just tidyed him up a little inside. I have always been fairly sure that he is 1 so asked her just to confirm and she then said that he is only 9 months!!! I was so shocked. This means that he was only 3 months when I got him! He was literally ripped off his mother I imagine and no wonder he was so timid and immature back in December. I feel so sorry for him but I think it explains why he's so attached to me to be honest. Just glad I know now. It also explains why he hasn't got all of his boys bits yet.

Lots of youngsters are weaned at 3 months. And I am not sure that someone can be that specific that he is 9 months rather than 12 months to be honest as even when they are young most equine dentists have a 3 month leeway when teeth erupt (i.e. the first molars erupt between 9-12 months) . Take it with a pinch of salt.

The first molars are very very slightly through the gum and she said that he is 9-10 months but from his size and build etc asumes he is at the younger end.

She can't really be too specific unless she has seen the sire and dam - I really would not worry about this at all. It sounds like it was a throw away comment and not something that you should spend time being shocked about!

He's apparently a sec A but I pretty much rescued him for £80 so could make a B possibly if he gets a move on and grows a bit more.
