i have bred a few mares over the years and some stallion owners give certs as soon as mare is scanned infoal, some give just after, some give when your leaving the yard and you date it when scanned infoal. some stallion owners give in oct or even after xmas. so have never had a problem or really worried about getting my cover certs.

But this year i covered 1 of my mares with a new stallion our vet told us about. brought mare up straight away and covered took home few days later, paid owner when was taking mare. we give our horses details for cert and our address for posting it on once mare was scanned infoal.

Mare scanned and had taken 1st time so i contacted, great no bother she said she would send on. few weeks later still not here, now normally i would not care as long as i get it before mare foals. but i have this mare for sale and told her that so want cert to pass on to new owner. contacted her again and she said she thought her dad had it posted said sorry and would get it A.S.A.P.

4 weeks went on i thought right where is it, so contacted her again and even said i am sorry for having to keep contacting you but need cert as mare is for sale, i felt like a right nag looking for something that i paid for and any decent stud farm would have sent it on straight away. as i said i normally dont care when i get it but as mare for sale want it for new owner ect. she hasnt contacted me since. i have someone interested in her but they want cert before they buy her as would i if i was buying a broodmare infoal, its the done thing.

I am raging with her and dont know what to do, i will leave it to oct as some people dont sort certs till then even though she said she had it, and drive out to her and ask her for it, and you know what her stallion is still being advertised for cover. so she must have certs, i bet she is calling me all the names of the day. but i shouldnt have to conact her 3 times and thats since june. so i am waiting on it a while now. i breed a few mares and i loved her stallion was going to take 4 of them to her next year, as she was great with mare, place was lovely and clean and stallion was amazing, but not a chance now. just need my cert and i am done with her.

Any one ever had hassel over certs, what would you do.

thanks for reading, wont say names of horse or owner as i wouldnt want to blacking anyone i just wouldnt go back after this.

It happened to me several years ago. Took a stallion to show for the owner in exchange for getting my mare in foal. Stallion duly went out, won a few shows, mare was covered and scanned in foal. Asked for the service cert. nothing forthcoming. All went quiet and stallion owner wouldnt answer phone or reply to letters (this pre-dates computers). Exasperated I took legal advice and sued in the small claims court for my service cert. Without it I could not register the foal. I turned up at hearing and got my certificate. Long slog but it was worth it!

hi thanks for replying. dont want to go to court over it. my mare has great breeding so at least foal would have that, but its just so unfair, i have paid and she is still advertising stallion. would love to take an ad out and say beware of this stallion owner. buyer doesnt want mare at price i am selling if he cant get cert, so value of mare has gone down if i dont get it. i will be driving to her house in oct and i am not leaving till i grt it or my money. i jave just got to the stage that i am not going to be walked over anymore.
i will be telling people to stay well clear of her. i know so many breeders that would have went to her by my word of stallion, as stallion is amazing but not now. she will lose trade with this for the sake of a few pound for a cert.

argh some people just make me so mad.

I wouldn't wait until October TBH especially if they say they thought it had been sent, that implies they have them to hand rather than waiting until year's end to send them (I know one stud that does them all in November regardless of when your mare was covered but they always tell mare owners it will be then so nobody worries). What society would it be under as you could contact them to find out if they've issued CCs for the stallion for this year just to make sure too?

If you get no joy I'd name and shame too.

Maybe an idea to check the stallion is on the data base under his current owner, smells a bit fishy to me i'm afraid - Could never get my foal registered because Dam wasn't registered under new owner.. Lost out on value because of this :(

i wouldnt be prepared to reduce mares price as it is low enough she worth alot more only selling as she bred me a homozygous and i have a few mares but she will stay untill next year, but market itrs the lowest i would go. i will keep her. she is very well bred. i contacted soiecty i will say he is a irish draught and the society said they are sorry i am having hassle but it is out of there hands they cant tell me anything. i am just raging at her. stallion is on data base. all ok its just owner being a dick.

I will say her stallion is amazing but he would need to be gelded with a owner like this. i am going to give her to oct and drive out as i contacted her 3 times and just sick of it. thanks everyone for listening to me i am just venting. just so mad, who does she think she is, sorry i will end now as i am getting madder. thanks again. i wont name her on this as i wouldnt lower myself but just raging.

If driving out there is realistically an option, why dont you ring up and say you really need it by next weekend at the latest, and as there seems to be a problem with them posting it to you can you come over and get it.

Then either they (rightly) feel guilty for putting you out and send it this week, or worst case you turn up at weekend having given them notice so they have it to hand so you dont have to wait ages, and you can collect it then. They're probably just really disorganised and keep forgetting, which isnt an excuse but does mean it probably wont help getting angry with them.

she told me twice she posted it, and then said when i contacted oh thought i had it posted, her dad. i had people coming over to buy my own stallion few weeks ago and they where going to look at mare she knew i needed it for that and said she would send it on straight away.
thanks for help but will ring and drive out in few weeks. just so mad.

thanks everyone, will update in a few weeks.

My friend had a similar problem, it turned out that the stallion wasn't registered with the stud book the advert claimed it was, this was before the time of internet etc. So she took them to court and won under false advertising..
