I was cantering through some grass today out on a hack (Not particularly long grass) but there were quite a few nettles in there (Never noticed a problem before). I was just pulling up on the shorter grass a few seconds later when she stopped dead and started stomping, rearing, going backwards and spinning. So much so that I couldn't jump off! I managed to calm her down and hopped off. She was still going nutty but her legs felt fine. I began the walk home with nothing else that I could do and she was lame on her near fore, but she was stomping on it and picking it up very high. Once we got home she wouldn't stand in the yard, she kept walking backwards and stomping her leg. After being advised by a friend, I hosed it down and put her out in the paddock. My initial idea was stinging nettles but could that explain why she was only sensative on only one leg? Or I thought maybe a snake bite, but her legs were clean and there was no heat. My horse is a TB cross eventer but she's not got the thinnest skin, has anyone got any ideas of what could have happened or what to do next?

We had a horse that rolled in stinging nettles, it made him go mad, rearing, galloping, thrashing around etc. He was covered in bumps all over. The vet told us to hose him down every 10 mins and stand him in for a few hours. It made him seem almost paralysed when it 1st happened, very wobbly. If it was nettles I wouldnt be too concerned. Never seem it before though until this horse.

Oh that sounds horrible! But she only was iffy on one leg, and there wern't any bumps, she did seem a little better after hosing down though. We have a BSJA show tomorrow but I'm not too concerned about not going! XD
