Stinky fleece!

Does anyone else have the same problem with their fleece rugs? Whenever I wash them at first they come out smelling fresh, but as they dry they still have that horsey smell!
They are clean (i.e. all the poo stains have gone!), but the smell of horse lingers on! I've been using Persil small and mighty, with Oxy stain powder and Fairy fabric softener on a 40 degree wash. Tonight I have tried Febreeze too, it has helped a bit but does anyone have any top tips on improving the freshness?

Peeps on here recommended vinegar and ketchup for my dog's thermatex coat that a charlie fox wee'd on!!

Yeah, I always add some vinegar to my horses washing (especially for boots, rugs etc.). It neutralises smells and removes dirt / grease. I just fill a bath with hot water, add normal hand-wash powder and some vinegar.
