Stinky horse

Okay, not sure if it should be in here or Vet....

My new fella is very farty, but they pong to the point they are almost offensive

His tummy is also very noisy. Is this something I should be concerned about?
His droppings are normal, he has been wormed and he is on adlib hay/hayledge.
Any ideas anyone?

I bet even he does not pass wind like Donkey does - no one on our yards have ever come across such a windy horse - her backside is in perpetual motion - and yes it can be wiffy

He is getting adlib hay, hayledge and grass.
He also gets a handful of Linseed lozenges as he has really dry skin.

True, but I know that was all he was fed at the place I bought him from.
Perhaps ours is more like rocket fuel!

I'd put him on pink powders, that normally sorts this out.
New horses often have to adapt to the different flora in the gut at their new homes and the PP seem to sort this nicely.

No, its very inconsistent, so I am thinking I may just stick to the hay, and try feeding him a little something.
The hayledge is supplied from the farm and never analyased, so a bit hit and miss really.

Daisy has a real wind problem and yes it can be stinky at times. I've put her on PP and it is better although not gone completely. Have you tried restricting his grazing? Through a process of elimination Daisy seems to have trouble with good grass. It makes her swell up like she's pregnant and fart almost constantly. She's much better if I restrict her to a small amount and feed hay in the field instead

Put on hay and try giving some equimins pro-bio - excellent stuff for anything going on in the gut department. Have used it on TBs and later on the hairies. Only now don't as I feed a lot of brewers yeast which is also great for the gut flora.

Some horses are naturally more stinky/windy - Cairo farts a huge amount and yesterday I had the lovely wind blowing my hair back from Chancer as I did his tail - couldn't believe the force that came out of his bum.

He is a bit poor at the minute so didn't really want to restrict his forage intake, esp as I don't want to be giving him too much hard feed, but its something I will bear in mind.

Could you not feed ad lib hay?My best advice would be to talk it through with the Dodson and horrell nutritionists, very helpful people and they could look at his diet as a whole for you
