Hey,
I am buying some stirrups tomorrow but don't know which to get. I did a bit of searching but found bad falls an feet getting caught :S my girl is 16.1hh so really don't want to get caught up!!

I have been riding in saftey for the last few months but have read they are for kids really and have a weight limit.
Others say their balance is off in bent leg stirrups and they don't feel as stable :S

What do you think? Or shall I stick to nomal ones as have fall a fair few times and never been caught up (tapping wood as a type that :-P)
Please help :)

Before I got my Sprenger stirrups, I always used bent leg stirrup irons - although now I've experienced Sprenger stirrup irons I wouldn't want to ride in anything else!

I would only ride in safety stirrups.

I've been hung by bent leg irons - so they don't count to me.

For hacking I have caged endurance stirrups.

For general riding/jumping I have SmartRider Escape stirrups.

I hate those bent leg ones and the ones with rubber at the side are even worse, I just find them unstable and seem to ping the rubber bits off! So I have normal ones, but now I must touch wood frantically that I have not shunned safety at my peril!

Would quite like some shock absorbing ones though.

I currently use bent legs as I had it drummed into me when I learnt to rode that they were safer but the more I read the more worried I become!!!

I am currently looking at smartrider stirrups and considering a pair of these- Oberon do you have the plastic ones or the metal ones?

Oberon do you have the plastic ones or the metal ones?

I have red plastic ones of course :D

Thanks for sharing- they are rather funky haha :)

Must admit I am rather boring so would be black or the plain metal ones for me ;) just need to decide which...!

I have the bent leg ones. I didnt realise people have been caught in them? I thought they were pretty safe!
I wouldnt want to ride in the safety ones with the elastic sides though, I think their best for the kids

Having had the horror of seeing my 10yo at the time being thrown forward on landing at a xc fence then hooked up & dragged briefly prior to pony kicking her off...I wld not use the bent leg irons whereas previously I thought they were safe :-( luckily bar bruising no harm done but was one of the worst experiences of my life horse wise.
