Stirrup Leather Length

I'm sure this is a stupid question but I'm really confused

I need to order some new stirrup leathers and my old ones say 48inch but actually from end to end measure 50 which is an ideal length to get them through the keeper. Do you not take end to end measurements when ordering (so do they have extra past the holes not included) or have mine stretched 2inches?

Leathers measurements tend not to include the buckle and your may have possible stretched too.

It’s like a tab on the saddle to pop them through

They'll have stretched a little, but it is only the leather that you measure. 48" and 54" can be more common than the inbetween sizes but I'm sure you'll find some.

It's called a Surcingle Loop and stems from the days of an extra surcingle over the saddle like in racing/hunting in the old days.
It wasn't designed for stirrup leathers as such

56 " is adult size
48" is child size
60 " extra long
