I have a new bridle and saddle coming tomorrow, and I need some new stirrup leathers , now I haven't been blessed with long legs and my old stirrup leathers were on the last hole, now with this saddle I felt I was reaching for them so had to put on a couple of new holes.

These were 54" in length, and now I'm thinking do I go for these or could I get away with shorter ones , I think the next ize would be 48" ones .

Also I have been looking at the jeffries ones and they come in different qualities, is it worth getting the top end ones or is there little difference in them.

Any advice would be great

I have 56" leathers and I am 5'5" with fairly long legs (so I'm told, I just think I'm short all over!) These are too long for me really, they're ok for flatwork but I have to twist them for jumping which is a pain in the backside! I would, for me, go for the 48" ones.
The Jeffries Elite leathers are very nice but are a pig to get on the stirrup bars without mangling them!

Get whatever size you are comfy with, so yes would prob advise you get the next size up, 48" if you were on last hole of the longer ones. i have the jefferies elite leathers and they are fantastic. they dont mark my saddle, havent stretched and the quality is fab

Simarillion- your tall compared to moi, I like to thing I'm 5Ft, and have short legs to boot, so I think the 48" should be ok, I don't see the point in buying 54" only to find that 6 months down the line and am having to put more holes in them.

KatB nice to know you like the elite, are they the calf leathers ones, i will go on to jeffries website and have a look.

Yeah I think so, they are the ones with nylon through the middle, they really dont stretch, whereas with some makes have found the holes have stretched after alot of use! I will only use the "bonded" leathers for jumping etc as they are so much stronger and safer than the normal ones IMHO

If you were struggling that much with the 54" then go shorter, they always stretch a bit anyway.
You can get some really nice soft leathers these days, and a lot are reinforced with webbing etc so prevent too much stretching and are generally stronger.
The Jeffries are nice, I think you're better off paying extra for the top end range because they are worth it - last longer and from a safety point of view.

Kerilli, I will have a look at those, it seems strange to think of leathers without the buckles, but I an open to trying anything.

Why not get some made to the length you want, like these

or if the link doesn't work ebay item No. 200204340033
