Ok so I need some new Stirrup Leathers, what ones do you use and recomend. There are so many out there. Must be a maximum of 54 inches long in black. Would like ones that don't streatch. To go on my saddle when repaired the old ones are not good any longer!

Bates - are the BEST - alittle expensive but you pay for what you get - Ive had jefferies etc before and theyve all stretched abit, Bates on the other hand are stitched so no stretching what-so-ever.

I am most impressed!

Sorry to hijack post, but the only nylon cored leathers I have used were almost too thick for the stirrups, so it was really hard to adjust stirrups for jumping etc. Was I unlucky, or is that standard with that type of leathers?

Depends on the leather and the stirrup!

My Amerigos, Stephens and bates will fit through anything as they are quite thin, however my pessoa and wow ones will not fit cheap bendy stirrups.

The more recent style of inexpensive flexible stirrups have a smaller hole. Not quite sure why as people used to use buffalo leathers pre-nylon days!
However all leathers are fine with the standard fillis, normal and aussie ones.

Are the stephens ones nice and short?!! Ive got some Jeffries ones and they are too long for me to jump/XC in

Yeah but my jeffries are only 54", but the holes dont seem to go up very far?! Compared them against bates, and bates would be fine, but are ££...

Reckon 50" should be ok though, thanks!!

That makes sense then - my Jeffries ones are too thick to move easily through my cheapo bendy stirrups.

I was considering changing my leathers but might be worth changing my stirrups instead?

I have Jaguar ones which have a nylon core and are 52" long. They have holes nice and close together and have not stretched. They also have curved buckles which sit really nicely. They aren't bulky at all. Downside is that they were about £60. I have had non stretch ones before and they were way too thick!

I didnt even realise that you could get stirrup leathers in different lengths ! Mine are Barnsbys, they haven't stretched (probably because i am careful to swap them round every week) but they are 54" and don't seem to go very short. i have very short legs and the leathers are on the top hole for basic schooling and hacking, so i can't take them any shorter for jumping.

I have very long legs and Stubben stirrup leathers on my hunting saddle. I am now on the 6th new hole I've punched above the ones that are already there

. I ride shortish to hunt but with very long legs that's not very short. I have no idea who they were designed to fit???
