Stirrups for rubbish (human) joints!!

Sprengers are a godsend - but not cheap! :) Have tried a couple of pairs of Sprenger-a-likes but they weren't as good.. Swap mine onto whichever saddle I'm using.

I have some cheapy flexi stirrups and theyve been great, but Ive been thinking about upgrading to maybe some sprengers if the really ARE so much better. Id like to try some really to make sure they actually are, but I dont know anybody with any :(

Which sprengers do people have?

Ive been looking at the bow balance ones, but I know there are other styles, not sure of the benefits of each...

I've got the 4's and the bow balance ones. It took a while to get used to the bow ones and I have to admit, I prefer the 4's which are more for dressage and hacking, the bows were brought out for jumping and I find heavier.

Can't remember which make they are, but my flexis were about £40 and really, really help my joints.
One thing I have noticed, if you have a tendancy to tip forward onto your fork, flexis may make you tip more. Practise with them first

I have Sprenger Off Set Eye stirrups and was very dubious about spending so much on them BUT they are worth every penny. I have had a spinal fusion and have weakness down my left side and these stirrups have really helped iron out the aches and pains. The off set eye means that when I mount or lose a stirrup I don't have to look down to find it.
With regard to the safety aspect as someone mentioned you can always buy a pair of toe cages to fit onto the front.

hm interesting, I like the sound of the metalab ones and the sprenger ones. I wouldnt like to use the decathalon ones though :o I may splash out on an upgrade and treat my knee!

I have these http://www.metalab.info/sitrrup-airsystem.htm. Not only do they flex, but they have an "air cushion" built in to the tread! (I call them my Nike Air stirrups! lol). I have awful knees/ankles, but these have really helped. Cheaper then Sprengers too, you can get them for about £80, compared to £130 for Sprengers!

I have these, and they are utterly wonderful! I credit these with my being able to return to lengthy rides so quickly after my knee surgery in August, after it being smashed into several pieces last December!

Considering the damage that was done, I get virtually no pain at all when riding...but I do get pain when walking.

I used to have some Sprenger copies and my knees would still aches with these, even before my injury!

I have RA and an ankle replacement. have always used sprengers but added cages too them after my latest surgery and it helps enormously :) and no way for feet to get stuck
I find the cages help me relax the foot and ankle

Sprengers bow balance irons are brilliant. They are even more expensive now than when I bought mine (probably cos the pound has plunged in value) and it probably seems mad to spend so much on a pair of irons, but I find they are miles better than anything else I've tried. Not only do they eliminate any aches and pains but also they keep my feet on the stirrups - I used to lose my stirrup occasionally but never with my Sprengers.
