For those of you with treeless saddles, which safety stirrup combo do you use and why?

Barnsbuckles – Are these designed to fit any stirrups and if so will they still work with a flexi style iron?

Peacock Stirrups (those with the elastic band) – cheap enough to buy but are they safe enough for a quick enough release?

SafeStyle Stirrups – Lovely smart looking irons and look better for competitions, probably very safe too but there a bit too expensive for me to buy at the moment at a £100.00 (until you know you’re keeping your saddle and it works for you that is).

Bent Irons – Do they make these in a flexi style option? never seen them however.

Stirrup Cage/Endurance Irons?

Your opinions would be much appreciated. :)

I use Peacock Stirrups and branded barefoot leathers but imagine you could get unbranded dressage leathers instead.

I have fallen off a couple of times in peacock irons and haven't had a problem with feet being stuck (touch wood  )

Thanks Goldenmint, I'll have the barefoot leathers (I think there the barefoot ones, maybe there just treeless type leathers, not sure yet until it all arrives).

I'm used to riding now with flexi stirrups, can you get these in a safety style iron I wonder?

Just wondered as well, how come forward facing strirrups are more popular with treeless riders, is there a particular reason for this?

The only Flexi Irons I have ever seen are a solid stirrups, just normal Fillis irons.

I know that when I got my saddle the advice was to get Peacock Irons so TBH I just went along with what the company recommended. Sorry Im not much help really :D

Always ride in peacock irons (just keep spare elastics) I have broken those but its only when i get home realise they are gone but they last for ages.

I will always ride in safety as have been upside down and dragged before!

I use flexi stirrups with barnes buckles - barnes buckles will fit most irons, with the exception of plastic stirrups according to the manufacturer.

Thanks guys, think I'll buy a pair of peacocks for now until I know where we are at then I think I'll get the Barnsbuckles to use with my flexi irons.

Does your saddle have a closed ring for attaching the leathers or a stirrup bar? If the former I would be adding barnes buckles regardless of the stirrup iron.

The Sprenger bow balance stirrups are flexi and "the System 4 technology enables immediate release of the foot in an emergency"
Stupidly expensive so shop around.

No it has the closed ring, it's a Barefoot London, so you'd recomend barnes buckles too, ok I'd rather be safe than sorry as he's chucked me a few times and it's something I've always been a bit worried about, I'd hate for my foot to get snagged even if it's doesn't get caught, I like a clean free landing, one of the reasons I tested the Freeform bareback, felt safer than risking it with my own stirrups just in case anything did happen.

Thanks.
