Stock or not to stock

I have seen loads of showjumpers jumping without either a stock or a tie, was just wondering if this is allowed? As much as it looks smart with a stock, it makes riding in hot weather so much hotter!

it's allowed for showjumping but i wouldn't do anything apart from sj without a stock or a tie!
