Well I visited Stocklands today and it looked lovely. The people I met seemed really nice and the facilities are great. Has anybody been here? Or knows any inside info? Is anyone there at the moment? Any recommendations (or otherwise!) would be great. Feel free to private message me if you dont want to write on here :) xx

If you can put up with clique-yness then you'll be ok. I was there for a year but didn't get on with the place- too big and everyone in each other's business. Nice facilities but indoor is often being used by outside people, paying to hire it, or at least that's what it was like when I was there.

I live in Cardiff and keep my horses in Caerphilly, so if you need help, give me a shout. :)

Am I right in thinking you're looking for 24/7 turnout in winter. Mine moved there with that intention but I wasn't allowed to put hay out. I searched for winter grass livery for about 2 years and finally found somewhere a couple of years back, I'm still at said yard but as ground is so wet, mine are in at night this winter, anyway.

I really like stocklands. Rob and Jane are really nice and accomadating and although it's a big yard it doesn't feel busy and people are friendly.

You can ride around the farm paths and through the fields but the negative is that you do need to ride on the main road the farms on to get to the local bridle paths but if your horse is good in traffic then you'll be fine.

Good luck in your yard search!

Hey SatsumaGirl, thanks very much for the offer of help :) I may well take you up on that!!

I was looking for 24/7 grazing, but finding some close to where I live / work was impossible. I found some that was a good 20 minutes drive away one way, and the amount of petrol I wouldve used in my thirsty car would've killed any savings I would've made.

Then I looked at the stable yard right next to where I work (which I thought would've been ideal!) but it was £35 pw inc hay, but no facilities and had to cross a railway line or a high 'footbridge' (not horse bridge) over a river which just made me think - if my horse shies then im falling to certain death!!

I had already enquired about Stocklands but thought it was out of my price range, but being only 5 minutes off my route home and having such great facilities it will save me that much in fuel each week. I guess im just going to have to get drunk less!!

And thanks Menolly, Rob was lovely today... I do have concerns over such a predominately female, large yard and cliqueyness but I guess all I need is me and my horsey, if they're not all as nice as I would like then we can play on our own :) I think a certain amount of cliqueyness comes with being horsey though, unfortunately!

What are the rides like around the farm? How long will it take to get around the whole thing? x

I was there for a bit couldnt leave quick enough rob has no horsey knowledge at all and thinks barbed wire fenceing is fine for the horses and is useless at doing anything around the farm, just ask anyone on the yard about the strangles incident and how badly managed it was and how he wanted to drag a horse that could stand with a tractor to get it of his yard!!! then moved everyones horses who had stangles to upper stocklands which at the time the stables had no stable door infested with rats and half a stable roof and gave no support at all, it is a very big yard which is also very bitchy glad i left

Wow Clydesdale seems you had a rough time! Thankfully things have moved on and it seems to be run much more professionally.

If your going for a walk you could be out for an hour and a half around the farm. It's tracks or open fields but off the yard you can go up to the Garth etc.
If your worried about it being busy then pop up again at the time you'd normally be there and see what you think.
I have friends who have been there 10 years or so since he really diversified from the farm and were there when they had strangles and are still happy customers!

is fine aslong as u expect nothing, dont expect any good management or any help when there is a problem, like most yards i guess its fine untill there is a problem rob just seem to want to make as much money as possible and put as many stables up as possible dosnt care about customer service he attitude is very much if you dont like it ****** off
