Right, I was just wondering if any of you dressage divas could point me in the right direction in relation to stocks!!!

I have no problem tying a stock so which do you think looks better for dressage a ready tied stock that you just put on, or a stock that you tie yourself??? I have never had one of the ready-tied thingy's so do they look the same as an ordinary stock or do they look a bit pants?

Also if anybody could point me to a website that sells really nice stocks, I would be eternally grateful!!! I have been looking on ebay, but I am not sure how good they really are just by looking at the photo!

I don't care how much it is I just want one that looks lovely!!!

Lastly, I have been looking at some Cavallo full seat breeches with the high waist and they fitted lovely although they were a little long as I am only 5'2" so would mean I would have to chop the bottoms off

Sooo does anybody know if any of the other brands like Pikeur/Eurostar/Kentucky are a little shorter in the leg?? I know I'm a short a*!e but its making me cringe to think I am going to have to chop some off the bottom after paying a hefty sum!!!

P.S Dressage Diva's, which in your opinion are the best dressage breeches with a full seat and high waistband???

Thanx guys!!!!

I'm no help with the breeches as i still wear junior ones (I think I must have a short body as ladies end up around my rib cage

) but with regards to the stock stick with the traditional tie-it-yourself, ready tied look flat and nothing like IMO!

I hate ready-tied stocks. Pet peeve.

I recently poured coke on my nice stock and ended up getting a new one in ivory silk from Classic Dressage web page

I'm 5'2 also and I use Pikeur and Eurostar breeches, I find the Cavallos are too long as well. But I don't like a high waistband. My favourite competition breeches are Eurostar full seats, but I can't remember the style name.

The ready tied ones always look just that I'm afraid!

So always go for self tie.

Morgan equine do some lovely ones..... http://www.morgan-equine.com/

I'm only 5'1" myself so understand the problem with breeches! I love my Pikeur ones but am not a fan of the high waisted ones as I am short waisted and the high jobbies would fasten under my boobs!

Ooh madmare I was looking at the silk stocks too, would you say they look nicer in real life than the other fabrics or do they look shiny???

I had some breeches made to measure for me recently for less than the Pikeur ones cost and they fit beautifully. I will try and find the name of the company for you. I'm 5'2 with short legs and have terrible trouble trying to get breeches to fit.

Edited to add - this is where mine came from and I'm very pleased with them

LOL bananaman, I seem to be fairly long in the body and short in the leg and I found that most of the breeches I liked were high waisted but I haven't tried many pairs on as our local shop only stock cavallo, so I am buying online and I can't really try them all on and keep sending them back lol

I am really tempted on ebay as there are some nice breeches that are BNWT for half the price they are in the shops, but again I won't be able to try them on and send them back.

Mine are Pikeur with a full seat but not the high waistband. They are so comfy and I love them to bits. I want a pair for everyday wear but cant part with that amount of money for me to wreck them!

I have eurostar leather seat breeches with a high waist band and they are lovely, however ive been using them every weekend for 3 years now so could really do with some new ones.

Ive just brought a pair of Mark Todd Gisbourne white breeches (ive got the Gisbournes in 'mub' colour and they are SO comfy) - but i think the white ones might bea bit see-through so i wont be able to wear them in the rain!!!!

I got a deal of buy one get one half price so got one black pair for everyday and one pair for competing not sure if she is still running that though. The shirts are very nice as well - thats my next expenditure!

Sorry to hijack but: I finally tracked down some (clarino?) full seat breeches that fit me but when i went to ride in them I found them quite restrictive (think it was to do with the seams and the different stretchiness of the fabrics) - do you all tend to find this but don't mind/get used to it or do I have a rubbish pair?

Has anybody ever tried making their own stock? I'm quite handy with a sewing machine and if I could find a pattern I wouldn't mind having a bash. I should think you'd save a lot of money.

LOL Little_mare, I know what you mean I have quite a few pairs with full-seat's in different fabrics like leather, Clarino, Isatec etc. and when you are not used to them they can be quite funny!!! However when you do get used to them, you will fall in love with them!! First time I wore mine when they were new, I didn't think I would be able to get on and then teamed with Konig dressage boots, I was walking like John Wayne!!! hehe. The funny part is when you come to get off in a deep seat dressage saddle with a high cantle, you can find yourself stuck!!!
Either they seem to loosen off with wear and washing or you get used to them I don't knoe but I love mine now and wouldn't go back to ordinary ones. They make me feel posh and I sit up and think about my seat more!!! They are also great with a Wintec isabell saddle, it is like having a velcro seat on a lively lively, powerful youngster which is fantastic!!!

a decent ready tied stock looks just as nice, as long as u make sure it fits nicely! i have a lovely cream one, and you would never know it was ready-tied.

on the breeches front, i too am only 5'2" and v short waisted, and i adore Gorringe because of the high, thick waistband! also very good value, with lots of nice styles to choose from!

I have one of those too, very smart. As for breeches, I was given a pair of Eurostar breeches and they are the only pair that don't come down to my ankles but then again I think they might be childrens! Very comfy though.

They do soften loads through wear, I couldnt ride in mine when I first got them but now they are my fave. Wash them with loads of softener and wear them in.

Always use tie your own stocks myself and have several that i really like. I have a lovely white hunting one that stays nice when tied , some of the silk ones can be a little on the 'limp' side and the fabric too 'smooth' so i love raw silk and wash them by hand and when i iron i use a little spray starch.
Breeches, i love Kentuky full seat Miami, the Sportline ones are fab and come in different leg lengths as do many of the 'continental' makes. The Sportline seats are particularly nice as the full seat in stretchy and lined with nice soft material.
i must admit i do love my Cavallos, they are very comfy. and wash well and come up looking smart EVERY time.
