As a person who has never used one, i'm getting very confused. I've just bought one and cannot do it up!! Apparently the diagram on the back was fool-proof

So does anyone have any easy step by step instructions or a close-ish picture so i know my finished product doesn't look silly!
Also while talking to someone in another tack shop,I was told that my stock (rich green with little white dots on) wouldn't be allowed at dressage- Is this true? (please bear in mind i only do unafill prelim dressage so hardly on the international scene!!)

You can wear a coloured one if you have a hacking jacket (tweed) otherwise needs to be white or cream to go with blue or black jacket.

I'm useless with my stock and follow the instructions badly everytime! TBH I make it up as i go along....

Buy a fake ready tied one! I've never had a proper stock and wouldn't have a clue how to do one up, I use a fake one for everything and it does the job fine. Saves a bit of time too.

I tie a sort of reef knot thing in mine, and then fluff the ends up and pin it. Its probably completely wrong but no-one's ever told me its wrong....

...but the self tied ones do look much nicer

I get my mum to do mine - even if it means getting up extra early to go to her house first thing

I used to tie a knot in it then fluff/twist it and put a safety pin thru the back where it couldn't be seen but it held everything in place. This worked fine until one day I came off and stabbed myself with it

The instructions on the packets are useless. Just do a form of reef know, and pin it down flat. Don't wear a ready tied 1 as they are obvious and look wrong.

No no no no no! They look awful (sorry, I know you must like it)

Tying a stock is just like tying a reef knot - left over right then right over left, then cross the two flappy ends and put a pin in the middle of where they cross. Get someone to show you if you can, it's much easier than trying to follow the instructions.
