My boy went up to newmarket the other week with colic. He had a sample of stomach 'juice' taken out to make sure all was working ok in there, Where would the needle be inserted?

Only asking as he has a large clipped patch about 3 inches behind his girth area (unless it has been rubbed by very tight surcingles but that unlikely) and has swollen from about an inch behind girth to about 5 inches from sheath (possily about17 inches long and 10 inches wide under his belly. Know this area is liable to swell as gravity is a key aspect!

belly taps are usually taken on the midline half way back between girth and stifle i think, well mine was and i was there. mine had no reaction or swelling! sounds like it might be infected, i would speak to your vet

My horse had a peritoneal tap where you describe. He had a slight swelling for a couple of days but nothing along the lines of what you describe so it does sound as though he may have had a reaction - I think you should have a chat with your vet about this.
