Hi, does anybody have experience of stomach ulcers in dogs?

My nearly 17yr old Lab seems to be suffering with ulcers, she is happy and healthy in all other ways but is not eating and loosing weight. She lives with my parents, last week mum took her to the vets thinking she wouldn't be bringing her back but after examining her the vet didn't feel it was her time just yet. Mum describe how Bonnie had got extremely excited by the prospect of having a few chips when they had taken her down the beach for a fish supper but after eating just a few she then started refusing the chips. He thinks she is suffering with ulcers, has prescribed zantac and omeprazaole and suggested just trying different foods to see what she will take.

At the moment her favourite things seem to be yoghurt and raw carrot, she is reluctant to take any of the stomach meds which I guess won't be helping.

I was wondering if it might be worth trying aloe?

Does anybody have any suggestions of foods to try her with that either may help or that she might take?

All suggestions most welcome :)

My dog has suffered with ulcers for about 7 years. We keep him on a strict, and i mean strict diet of James well beloved and chicken or fish and rice a few times a week. He gets no treats or bits from our plate. We would love to give him the odd piece of toast or something at breakfast but its just not worth it. It took us a while to get him settled but with the diet and 3 or 4 small meals a day its seems to help. Occasionally we pop in a zantac or if he gets unwell the vets gives us some medication. For us its been a good bland diet at regular intervals that's helped. Good luck, i hope your dog starts picking up soon.

Thanks, sadly things aren't looking great for her, I think we are very much on borrowed time, but letting her enjoy what she can and keeping a close eye for when she let's us know she's had enough.
